I found it rather underwhelming but I really didn't "get" what the upside down start was all about. It didn't seem to go with the rest of the dance in any way, considering it was a memory lane dance. I agreed with Bruno that the unusual beginning made one think of the spiderman movie and created a sense of anticipation which didn't deliver.
Just rather puzzled really about why Aliona chose such a strange start.

Maybe to try to make it memorable in some way... because it certainly wasn't - in any other way.

Someone suggested the production team might have made them add it on last minute after seeing what a damp squib their showdance was.

I thoight their show dance was ok. Could have been better but so could the other two. The start was a little strange but I like how it showcased his dancing rather than just him throwing her about whilst doing jazz hand, I find those hard to sit through myself.

They won. Get over it already!

I said earlier that thought the production may have added it in after their run through yesterday after seeing it basically had no wow to it at all. For a showdance, you need something.

It seemed out of place, so it was just something I thought when I saw it.

I think he could have done something much more impressive.

Frankly, I liked it. I get so tired of all the showdances being the same hopping and flapping lift-a-thon gurnfest year after year.

Dances from series 1 are still being analysed and used as reference points...why aren't people allowed to comment on something that happened a couple hours ago?

*reads St Jay Fan manual* It was cool, modern and...hang on, give me a minute...laid back.

Did anyone actually say that? (Honestly, I don't know. There are too many threads flying around.)

Cos Jay could definitely learn to hold his own body weight on his arms whilst being spun on gymnastic rings upside down in 24 hours.

Oh silly me....

You see, when I saw the thread title called "Jay and Aliona's Showdance".... mad impetuous fool that I am - I actually thought the OP wanted to discuss Jay and Aliona's Showdance.

Thanks for showing us all the error of our ways and not realising that instead of discussing the thread topic we were all just supposed to prostrate ourselves at Jay's feet and declare ourselves unworthy of breathing the same rarefied air as him.

That'll teach me, eh???

Glad to see your copy arrived in time for the final! I'll be testing you on it tomorrow! 😜

Well apparently his show dance was so subtle that only sophisticated people get it !' Or so we were told

hated the song. Its a lounge song, good for backgroud noise in a bar but has no real dancing vibe to it at all so it the rythm of the routine was destined to be limp. However, the actual dancing produced was very good and Jay showed that he can indeed move. Just a pity

He was sensitive and brave to dance it.

Yep. I mentioned in another thread that a Michael Jackson song (perhaps Remember the Time or Dangerous) with strong rhythm would have shown off his dance skills better.

I thought it showed off his technique very well indeed, but would have loved a bit more oomph. Enjoyed the Paso very much.
Kellie and Kevin's was superbly put together and performed, but for me, they essentially did two Charlestons tonight. Loads of energy and jqzzhands and gurning, but a change of pace would have been nice.
Georgia and Giovanni lovely and accomplished and very well performed, but again I thought their Showdance lacked sparkle.

My problem was it felt like it had an introduction, a middle section, but no end section. It was almost as if they'd just got into the dancing and then it was over. It could have done with another minute to do a bit more and then finish it off with a nice flourish.

I really liked it.

I think the musical interpretation wasn't as punchy as the version they trained to, but it was beautifully danced and complicated.

I loved spotting each of the moves from their dances.

I do think it was a dance for their fans. I imagine if Kellie or Georgia had done the same I'd not be impressed because I don't know all their dances. Oh and I'm pleased we didn't have any liftathons. Was nice to see 4 actual dances.

Yes, very sophisticated. If you didn't understand it, then you're clearly a philistine.

I did like the music though - wasn't sure about the choice before.
