The Slater family has to be one of the biggest editions of the early 00s and was part of some of the most iconic stories to ever grace the screen, like everything we had additions and departures over the years and little remains of the family except probably the most well known Stacey & Kat.

It appears that the family might be on the move to rebuilding some what, even with the death of
Spoiler
forthcoming, we have one Slater being recast Belinda the lesser known sister probably most remember for being snobby, clashing with Kat and sleeping with Jamie Mitchell, could we possibly see the likes of Lynne and Zoe heading that way too?

A bit of a controversial topic whether they should recast theses roles in particular that of Zoe, Michelle Ryan has ruled out a few times ever appearing again and Elaine Lourdon has personal issues which likely prevent her ever returning, Little Mo it's the only one more likely to return if they could prompt Kacey Ainsworth.

Now it might seem unnecessary to have Lynne return or even Little Mo return, some characters should remain in the past they say, but Zoe I think on the table is one that could be recast in the near future, seems a pity the character should be held to ransom somewhat by the blockage of the first actress not wanting to return to prevent the character returning played by a new face.

So would it be a good idea to rebuilt the Slaters with some old/new characters or just leave it be with a mash up of Moons/Slaters if and when Kat & Alfie return, possibly with her son in tow.

And finally would recasting further be a good or bad idea? seems to have worked for other soaps

Thoughts?

I really, really dislike the whole lot of them.

Charlie was a bore.
Mo / Lynne were incredibly dull.
Horrible Kat is an absolutely disgusting person, just when you think she can't sink lower she does something even worse then screams "ITS NOT MAH FAWLT AM A DIRTY GIWL". I'll gladly put my boot through the screen when she's back, horrid woman.
Alfie is a xenophobic arsonist scumbag that nobody likes.
Zoe was whinging.
Stacey, whilst hot, is all murderous and cheating and stuff.
Jean is evil. Pure evil. That grating screeching noise she makes is one of the worst noises ever to go through my eardrums.

Not Lynn but maybe a Zoe recast in the future,

Lynn was basically just Kathy! If she's comes back she should be the same actress but shock horror have developed as a caractor

I think if they hadn't used Michelle Ryans picture on Kat's mobile in tho Vic scenes with Linda, Kat and Kim they could have recast Zoe by now. I think using the pic was a mistake as it has reminded everyone of Michelle being Zoe

sems Kacey would have returned for charlies death if it had worked out timing wise so we may see her.

Lynne would have to be recast and I think they should

I found Lynne dull. I think she was by far the weakest link out of the Slater sisters. All of the others were given these big, dramatic storylines and then there was her, breaking up and getting back together with Garry, again and again.

I'd love this to happen as the Slaters have always been one of my favourite families.

However, Kat and Stacey have always been my favourites (as is probably true for the majority of viewers) so I'm not too fussed on any of the others providing these two are still in the show.

I wish they brought Leanne Lakey back to play Belinda. She was beyond fantastic. That bob haircut wig and fake posh accent were hilarious.

I suppose this will be the first time Stacey and Belinda are on screen together.

I doubt Sean will come back permanently, but I'd love a one off return just so he can share scenes with Slaters he hasn't been around.

Lynne should be a pretty straightforward recast if they ever bring her back.

Things are already looking up with Kat getting an adult son and one sister back, and Stacey getting a brother. I just wish we saw more of Jean, Ollie and Mo.

I think it's good that the Slaters are being rejuvenated. We've seen the Masoods boosted by the Shabnam recast and Kazemis in recent times. The Belinda recast is understandable considering the character was never really fleshed out and largely forgettable minus her wig caper. Kacey couldn't return unfortunately and I never want to see Lynne again.

I don't think they'll ever recast Zoe because of the iconic 'You Ain't My Muvva' storyline. It's one of EastEnders biggest and best moments in its history. Michelle Ryan is the noughties' Sue Tully and we may never see her again. I think it is with this in mind that they have created the secret son story for Kat.

Ditto with Sean, Rob Kazinsky is busy elsewhere so they've created new sibling(s) for Stacey. This new generation of Slaters has lots of exciting untapped potential and they seem to be taking their time to ensure they get it right.

Excellent analysis as always DJ and I agree with your substantive points if not always the tone

The Slater's are one of my favourite families, but I don't think recasting them is worth it. A Belinda recast is fine, because she never really played a big part in the show. However, a Zoe recast would be hard to warm to, due to Michelle Ryan portraying Zoe through many storylines and in particular 'You ain't my mother'... It would be like another Sam Mitchell all over again. Only 10 times worse, IMO.

Besides, even though they've come and gone. They've always managed to have at least one family member on The Square.

I'm with J-B. I hate all of them.

In fairness they were a good family for about 3 years in the early 2000's but they became a spent force in record time. By 2005 the only one I still liked was Kat and she's been awful since she came back.

Kat - Used to be great. Now a parody.
Lynn - Dull and unlikeable.
Little Mo - Dippy simpering village idiot.
Zoe - Stupid cow.
Charlie - The most boring man in the world.
Big Mo - Vile excuse for a human being.
Stacey - Self righteous hypocritical slapper.
Jean - Dippy simpering village idiot 2.0.
Sean - Evil psycho.

They should all be rounded up and shot.

I'd like Kacey to return as Little Mo. I could actually see her and Honey being friends despite the potentially awkward Billy link. Maybe even Ronnie. She always could have done with some decent, loyal friends as her sisters let her down and took her for granted often enough.

I think she was completely done by the time she left, the Trevor storyline shoehorned her a bit after that it seemed they never quite knew what to do with her.

I think her and alfies relationship is one of the worst storylines eastenders has ever done, they had zero chemistry and it just seemed sensationalist of them, absolutely hated it

As others have said the Slaters were great at first, but by 2005 they were totally worn out. I couldn't stand Little Mo, Zoe and Lynne. Charlie was a bore, and Mo is literally pointless.

Kat and Stacey were always the best Slaters, and they're still in the show. So let's focus on them rather than bringing the other harridans back.

They peaked in the early noughties and went progressively downhill from there, rendering them a well and truly spent force by 2005/06.

They've run their course, IMO.

Fab news.

I always thought there is more scope for Belinda. Fingers crossed she is coming back in a permanent basis if Kat returns permanently in late 2016. Carli Norris is a phenonemal actress and I loved her characters in other shows like Hollyoaks and Holby City. Carli moved me a lot when she was portraying Martha's alcoholism in Hollyoaks and I always thought she was a very underrated actress who never got much praise for her flawless acting.

Her character, Fran is a bitch in Holby City but her performances blew me away and I felt Fran's pain because of what Jac did in the past. I'm a big fan of Fran but if she's coming to EE permanently, that's a genius move from the producers.

Kat and Belinda have a fiery relationship and I want to know more about Belinda.

I hope we never see Little Mo, Lynne and Zoe again. Zoe was always a whiney, selfish and self-entitled woman who annoyed me the majority of the time.

There is a saying that you shouldn't drag something out past its peak. That if you do, it becomes not as enjoyable, more overbearing and even a parody of its former self.

The slaters had their time right through the 00's, they should have more or less ended in 2010 when Stacey left (Jean should have went with her and big Mo and Charlie would have moved away to be more near the girls which they have more or less done). And kat and Alfie should have stayed away since their perfect 2005 exit.

Just because they are one of the most popular families ever, bosses just want to drag it on regardless past their natural life span. So they resort now to retcon secret family members and recasts.

It also shows a lack of imagination and ability if you can't make a character work on their own without needing to add recasted characters and secret family members to give the character you've been left with (Kat/Stacey) some significance. If bosses can't make a character work without resorting to these kind of lows, that character should leave.

An EP should not be afraid to move forward.

I would really welcome a reboot of the Slaters

I put the Slaters up there with the Mitchells as EE's best family. Definitely the best family since 2000 and I'm a big fan of the Brannings and Carters too.

Kat and Stacey are arguably the two greatest and most popular creations since 2000 so I think they deserve to have a family around them.

Kat and Stacey are obviously the two must have members of the family. Then we have Kat's son who I hope to see introduced into EE later next year. The Belinda recast is a great idea - the one under developed family member but who has an interesting relationship with Kat already established. Stacey's brother Kyle will be joining and maybe a sister too. Kat's son may have children of his own. I think that is enough family to be getting on with.

Lynne - not that interesting and doesn't need to be seen again.

Little Mo - hopefully returns for a guest spot once Kat has returned fulltime and Kacey is available. Doesn't need to come back permanently but should regularly show up at big family occasions.

Sean - would be great if Rob Kazinsky would do a guest spot.

Zoe - Would consider recasting. Even though he was part of an iconic story, she isn't an iconic character and I think it would enhance the Secret Son story if he could be reunited with his twin sister.

For a strong Slater family the necessity is a Kat return and then we can have her, Stacey and some new Slaters to explore which I'm looking forward to.
