Roseblue - Don't take the insult to heart. My daughter is 9 months older than Jay so I understand how you feel, but we will never extract an apology or explanation for these sort of comments. I have asked certain posters numerous times through the years to explain their remarks but not one has ever had the courtesy to reply, let alone engage in rational dialogue. To those who drop a derogatory comment and then hide I say that this is a discussion forum...
You are so right

Are they....how do you know that? (not being funny)
Please read the post below, it sums up well.

Hardly. Being a fan of a successful boy band is nothing like being an actress on a soap. When was the last time you saw a soap character being confronted by thousands of screaming fans?.

So what went wrong with the Blue fanbase for Simon Webbe then?

Also to add The Wanted are nowhere near in the same realms as the likes of Westlife and McFly when it comes to devoted fans. Or Blue for that matter. Didn't do Simon or Nicky any good when they did Strictly. Strictly has a much broader fan base. If that was not the case then every time a boy band personage was in a reality show they would win. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. I think you will find more losses than wins

I’ll tell you what I can’t stand.

I can’t stand pro dancers, pro dancers with extended families who are also pro dancers, celebs with no dance background, celebs who went to stage school, celebs who went to stage school and were in a boy band, celebs who went to stage school and were in a soap opera, Anton Du Beke, Katie’s legs, Jay’s long hair, Jay’s short hair, Gleb getting his chest out at every opportunity, Georgia not getting her chest out at every opportunity, ex models presenting a TV dance show, ex ballroom dancers judging a TV dance show, Antipodean’s judging TV dance shows, Italians judging TV dance shows, judges on TV dance shows who have to stand to make their comments, ex ballet dancers who judge TV dance shows, ex ballet dancers getting the vapours with god looking young men dancing, too much faffing about, props, other dancers performing with the couples, getting to Blackpool, sprung dance floors, stupid music choices, wafting choreography, inconsitant marking, Peter Bloody Andre, corny music choices e.g. weather themes for Carol, sequins, spray tans, dance offs, posters who nothing about dancing but pontificate like they are the worlds expert, posters with a favourite who can do no wrong but will never concede that another could be as good or better than their favourite, cries of fix or rigged ( apart from when it was Peter v Jamelia) the Daily Mail, Len’s walnuts, themed weeks, the man in the hat, Sunday’s “live” dance off show, terms and conditions, group dances, guest artists who can’t sing, and the glitter ball.

And I can’t wait until next year’s Strictly.

P.S. I lied about Katie’s legs!
Brilliant work

I think you covered just about everything.

I watch Eastenders and voted for Georgia all the way through, so...bit of failed logic there.

Also, boyband fans are more "devoted" than soap fans.
As it has been stated so often in here, many of us had never heard of Jay or The Wanted when this series started.

So it was NOT just boyband fans who voted for him.

Jay picked up loads of support from people who only know him from the show, but anyone who doesn't believe the backbone of his support came from his Wanted fan base is in denial.
The Wanted are a minor boy band. They couldn't make it in the big league hence their "break". They have some central fan base but it's minor in comparison. They are the Eldorado in comparison to Eastenders

In fact I have heard many youngsters say that they did not know who Jay was....when explained most of them said 'oh the quiet one who never really did much'.

Or Westlife's Nicky?
Exactly. Though he wasn't very good. Simon was excellent. Every reason to expect the Blue fanbase would get Simon home based on what we're being told here!

re jay and the housewives... i have to say i found the dynamic around him to be rather odd, to say the least. he started out as the sexiest thing on two legs with comments like 'i so would / i could climb him like a tree / incredibly sexy when he dances' - plaudits usually reserved for the more beefcake types - and then slowly became 'sweet, shy, well behaved, just like my oldest', probably in response to the persistent treble and rabbit in the headlights demeanour. .a pretty weird transformation

I never looked on him as the sexiest thing on two legs...I always thought he was shy and nervous.

I just liked his dancing and I thought he came across as a decent young man.

Westlife and Blue were on their peak ages before either Simon or Nicky appeared on SCD. Opposite to McFly and Wanted in relation to Jay and Harry.

As it has been stated so often in here, many of us had never heard of Jay or The Wanted when this series started.

So it was NOT just boyband fans who voted for him.
Obviously not, as stated before The Wanted was a minor boyband, if only their fans had voted for him he wouldn't have won. But similar to Harry, it was their core fans that started the en masse voting.

Horny housewife?????

jeez I liked him because he rminded me of my son who used to be just like him and because he was IMO the best dancer

thinking of him in a horny way is just so wrong and its disgusting if someone suggested I thought of him that way
So you fall into the 'mothers will vote for Jay' group predicted by Richard Madeley on ITT

I voted for Jay last night but I couldn't pick The Wanted out of a lineup. In fact for the first few weeks, every time they were mentioned I kept picturing The Darkness.

People have favourites for lots of different reasons. There's a hardcore on here determined to retcon it that Jay only won because middle aged women fancy him, and no amount of evidence to the contrary will convince them otherwise because they don't want to believe it. They don't think he was the best dancer (fine; valid opinion) so they can't allow that other people do think he was the best dancer and so convince themselves that there can only be other, entirely non-dance reasons for his popularity. It's not worth losing sleep over or taking personally.

Does anybody have to fall into a group....it was just the fact that many from all ages just loved Jay.

Nothing to do with peak ages. Westlife were huge from start to finish and were renowned for having a rabid fan base. This never changed. If Westlife reformed tomorrow they would still sell out massive arenas and sell huge amounts of records no matter how aged their fans now are. The Wanted have never reached such heights and never will. They are the equivalent of 911 or Five. A very quickly passing fad for a few.

I wouldn't disagree re Harry. However he remains one of my favourite all time Strictly dancers so for me it had nothing to do with boyband.

I have to agree with that....they did appear on Strictly twice.

However there is now going to be one young man from the group that is now going to do very well.

Can't stand Kellie. Can't stand Kevin, Karen and the associated family & pals unit including Joanne & Janette. They should dump Kevin and Karen, dump Janette - even if it means Aljaz going.

It is SCD, not the Clifton show.
Blimey, that's a bit harsh! Maybe next year try watching something else?!

I like him from before the show proper started because of his tweets and the way he seemed to be tongue in cheek and self depricating*. I'd have supported him (in the same way I did Jeremy) if he had turned out to have 2 left feet. It was just a happy co-incidence that he turned out to be the best (imo, obvs) dancer of the series.

* and East Mids pride, obviously.
