Turkey crown.

Decided to get the smallest one of these this year. Saw some at £11 in Tesco. Is it best to get a pre-basted one as they have those and none basted, same price. Do I turn it upside down for the last half hour so the juices run in to the breast, like they advise you to do for a full turkey, so it's not dry?

Any cooking advice appreciated as we've always had a full turkey before but none of us like the dark leg meat.

Daft question maybe, but where do I get a turkey bag? Poundshop, supermarket? Do you mean you took it out and let it stand in foil for the 30 minutes? Did you put butter on as someone said in the other thread?

I've never bought a crown already basted before, but I usually put seasonings, butter, and cover with bacon strips, then cover with foil for all but the last 15 minutes or so.
For you a roasting bag would be a good choice. They can be bought from any Supermarket. Just stick it in the bag with seasonings in a roasting dish, cut open near the end (well I prefer to).

Poundshop has them. No need for butter before putting it in the bag, but do split the bag for the last half an hour, brush it with butter at that point. The milk solids in the butter help to caramelise the skin to a lovely brown.

Take out the bird and save the juices. Cover the bird with foil and let it rest for a minimum of half an hour.

As I said on the other thread, do not get a pre-basted turkey. They are injected with salt and chemicals, and there's just no point to them - they hardly save you any time. Get a natural turkey, smother it with butter and baste it yourself.
