Celine has been singing for 36 years, and still remains one of the most celebrated female voices in the world.

She sells Vegas out night after night, and her European tour next year is sold out. The last album done very well worldwide (nowhere near the success of her 90's albums though)

I can't help but feel she is overlooked at times. When people think of female singers, it is Whitney or Mariah, whereas Celine has kept her voice and is still at the top of her game. Her success is nothing short of incredible give the fact she has risen to become one of, if not, the biggest selling female artist ever

She has one of the most distinctive voices in the world today and will be remembered for it in years to come.

I guess she gets credit where credit is due. She doesn't write her music and I actually admire her because of that. So many of the worlds leading artists (*cough* Beyoncé) are said to be given writing credits for working with a certain person...

I think if she were to do a final world tour in the next 5 years..it would sell out.
A bit like madonna in the way that she can tour but not sell like she used too.

Celibate is one of, if not the best singer in the world today. I love her. I seen her in her 'Taking Chances' your in Manchester a few years back and she was amazing. Would love to see her tour again but with all that is going in her personal life I doubt it. I'm seeing Mariah in March in Manchester Arena. I can't wait for that. Then I can say I've seen 2 of the greatest voices ever

No I don't think she is over looked. I respect her because she is a very good singer but I don't think she is a great one like Whitney and Mariah. Whilst I agree she is not named when naming the best vocalists of all time, she is still respected as a good singer and sometimes gets mentioned as part of the vocal trinity (Mariah, Whitney, Celine).

I only ever enjoyed her Falling Into You album and the odd single off her other albums. Like others have said whilst she is a great vocalist she is somewhat bland (that said I don't see the fuss over Whitney either her music is also a bit meh). Where for me Mariah is overlooked in the sense she wrote all her earlier material and that is never seemed to be mentioned .

Completely agree. Think Twice/Falling Into You are fantastic. Afrer My Heart Will Go On it became fashionable to really knock her but if you don't care about trends or so-called 'edge' then you can appreciate what she has achieved and THAT voice. Live and perfect....

A residency in Las Vegas effectively means semi-retirement for a recording artist.

The follow up Let's Talk About Love was more her peak I think. It's amazing what she did in the late 90's - 2 albums both selling over 30 million copies.

She sort of went downhill when she took 2 years off and came back with A New Day Has Come and started her first residency in Vegas

I think Celine often gets less credit because she is very safe with her music. Whitney and Mariah were/both experimental with their music. They didn't just do power ballads but their best known tunes will remain those power ballads. Whitney even did a gospel album for one of her movie soundtracks, as well as a few dance tracks as well as R&B songs and Mariah's later music is very Urban with some hip-hop elements.

Celine's last album was a representation of a woman who is still stuck in the 90's power ballad phase. The album failed terribly at trying to be modern. It was all essentially rehash of her own previous stuff but it looked hip and cool because she was working with current and popular producers.

Yeah I think Lets Talk About Love spawned the Titanic song so that was for sure her selling peak, but it was also the album where she moved firmly into "mom pop" territory and started to be seen as naff.

Celine got a lot of credit for her 90s albums, especially for the Titanic. She probably has less credit these days because her albums have been bland and she's now singing in Vegas.

People still put her up there with Mariah and Whitney so she's not doing too badly.

Well my heart will go on became so huge that people resented it as they heard it everywere and as good as the song fitted the film it basically became cool to bash her. However with las vegas she does 70 shows a year in one place and gets $400k per show and as stated above her tours are all sell outs like vegas.

If thats semi retirement then i would love to do that.

I suppose that would be like 'Barbra (Streisand) who,' or Shirley (Bassey) who', in that if you're not relevant in today's music you're not even a recognised name any more, regardless of your career achievements? I assume that's what you are getting at anyway.

I think she's underrated as a singer.

I think it may be what others said, she never appealed to a younger generation in her career like Mariah and Whitney did once upon a time, so her fanbase never grew older with her. I'm not sure Mariah's really did either though, she was big in the 90s and had one major album last decade but she doesn't get any respect these days, just seems to be a laughing stock.

Interestingly, if you asked people outside of their fanbases to name a song by any of them I bet they could name one from each - Titanic, All I want for Christmas, & I will always love you. One of those is a film theme, one a bit of Christams tat, and one a cover of a superior original.
