The scores for the final weren't right
I know the scores don't mean anything but I had a few issues with the scoring.
Idon't know about the the technique, but Kellie's Tango just didn't seem like a 40 dance. It didn't have that x-factor that a 40-dance should have. Also, it didn't feel quite right that they could do Lindy Hop for their showdances. In my personal opinion it should be based on dances they've learned throughout the process. For some reason however they chose to ignore Jay and Georgia's brilliance. Their showdances were brilliant and did not deserve to be so far behind Kellie's. It's so unfair to mark Jay's SD down for the reasons they did - he danced it perfectly. I also wish the judges would stop picking underwhelming dances. They should just pick dances they liked! The first round was a bit underwhelming, as out of the four dances they picked, Katie's was the only one I even remotely wanted to see again. So yes, I feel Jay and Georgia's scores didn't do them justice. It's a shame that Jay never got a 40 when he is one of the best dancers we've ever had. At least the public served justice in the end

Does it really matter? He won.
I thought Jay was third on the night but the best dancer over all so I don't know why people are obsessed with the idea that he had to ~win on the leaderboard as well especially as the judges scores count for nothing in the final. |

Yes. Thank God the judges don't have the final say. It does come down to taste but better that the whole of the British public has its say than just 4 judges ... with Len as the casting vote!

Nothing really matters. It's a TV show. It's just a discussion point! I just felt the judges were unfair on his showdance.
It just seems that some, not necessarily this post, but a few have some sour grapes that the two women got a 40, but considering Jay actually won, it seems a bit ungracious, imho. |

Completely agree with you the judges were biased but thank god they didnt have to make the decision and I know its only scores but it is ridiculous that Jay never got 40 but like Kara she won and didnt get 40

In the shakedown, the judges' leaderboard reflected the order of merit on the night. I thought Kellie was brilliant throughout, but if she'd opened the show - no way would that tango would have scored 40.
Jay is a worthy champion, but I was disappointed by his inconsistency and lack of progress in the last few shows. Let's enjoy his success, but this endless quest to prove that as he won he must have been the best (whatever that means) dancer on the night or overall, seems a bit desperate tbh. |

And I thought they probably overmarked it - you can please some of the people, some of the time and all that...

Only because Craig is a Numpty, probably the best male and best female to win and neither of them got 40.

![]() Len had an issue with Artem in my opinion and refused the 10 a few times when you would have expected him to give it. He did give Kara 10s on a few occasions but not that often, and only once in the final from four dances. Bruno gave her 8 and Alesha 9 over the series. Craig is always stingy with them but sometimes Len throws them out for very dubious dances (not just him obviously). His marking of Kara in the final was a good example of how inconsistent he can be, and frankly how he lets his feelings towards the pro especially, or his "old school" issues that are conveniently ignored if it suits, influence him rather than just basing it on the dance. I agree that Kara and Jay are among the best there has been and no 40 therefore seems odd. Especially when you think of some of the 40s that have been awarded (e.g. Pamela S). |

I know this wasn't aimed at me, but I don't think it's sour grapes as Jay won, what's to be sour about?! But Kellie's Tango was clearly far from perfect (I've mentioned her poor posture in hold in other threads) so it just comes across as hypocritical from Craig that he saved his first ten for that, yet was stingy enough till the end to not give Jay one at all, not even for his Paso.
Overall the final was a bit overmarked but that is typical. Katie perhaps less so. If it was an earlier week I think there would have been far less 10s and generally lower marks for most of the dances. Ultimately, however, they all had at least one dance that given the situation deserved a 40 (not including Katie in that) so it is a pity they didn't all have that moment. I suppose Jay will just have to console himself with winning the show.

Yeah I think they had had enough of Anton this series because i thought their Quickstep was more than 5 points better than their 1st go and i think their showdance had more about it than Jay's so i think they just didnt want Anton to win. I think should have been in the top 3 and Jay gone. I accept he won but I dont think the best dancer won on the night (Georgia IMO)

I didn't agree with Kellie's 40's but there is no way I would have put Jay any higher than 3rd on the night, which was his final position, so it's a moot point from my seat.

Katie's showdance may have had more in it (I'd dispute that, but let's leave it for now), but it was extremely poorly danced, whereas Jay's was very well danced. Why would it get higher marks than Jay's?

becuase it had more in it more content and looked more like what it should a showdance therefore that should equal more points IMO both dances undermarked

And it still doesn't matter since a poorly danced routine should always get fewer points than a well-danced routine. It's a dance competition, not a choreography competition. |

Except that isn't true. Katie's showdance had a lot of loud music, but only two dance styles. Jay's had a lot more dance styles intricately woven together.

there was a wow moment in Katie's showdance and at least she showed emotion through the dances as well as character Jay had no Wow expression or character whatsoever. the miserable man didnt even smile when he won and was given the trophy. Im not begrudging him the win though becuase whenever things are voted for in life people go for who they want and its not always the strongest postion. Like i said i have a position on the student union in college and for my position I dont think i had the best manefesto for my catergory but everyone else voted for me so i beleive i deserve my place as much as anyone else there. Same with SCD Jay didnt dance the best on the night but he was who the public wanted so deserved to win (for the best dancing couldnt call it between Georgia and Kellie TBH)
Hell, I loved Katie's dance for the madness that it was, myself, and you're free to prefer it to Jay's, but to claim it had more dance content than Jay's is factually incorrect. |

I quite liked Jays dance too; it was good, but lacked show. In particular, it just stopped rather than hitting any kind of finale. Perhaps the Jive ending felt stronger to J&A, or just meant more to them. Quote:

I tend to agree; a career as centre of attention wouldn't suit Jay at all . I'm not sure that he cared about the prize so much as doing the right thing by Aliona tbh. The red button interview gave a bit more background to it.
