sony tv- 2 vertical lines on screen
Hi all, hope someone can help.
We have a sony kdl-32bx320, about 4? years old bought from tesco for about £300, this weekend we have noticed 2 vertical lines, close together near the right hand side of the screen. on some colours they are not visible, some they are. Everything else works fine, which is useful as we cannot really afford a new tv this month. We think it might be a the t-con board (although that info came from a youtube video so cant be entirely certain. My question is in 2 parts: 1) is it worth fixing? and how much should i be looking at? 2) if its not worth fixing it will have to stay as is for now, what should I look for? looking for 32-40-ish inches (not got room for anything bigger) and a soundbar, up to about £350 for the pair, thought about going to richer sounds (ex work colleague works there and i know he will be totally honest) had a talk with the wife and she isnt into the idea of getting a no-name (which she defines as anything that isnt lg, samsung, panasonic or sony), |

If you choose a new tv,
32in sony or Samsung currently cost just under £300 (high street prices). What ever you pick, ensure its full HD with 1080p. Don't pick a HD-ready set (the lower resolution is noticeable). As many HDMI ports as possible if you intend to connect stuff to it, but ones with a scart or any sort of mini scart adaptor are getting more rare by the day. If you plan to use the built in freeview, make sure you get one with freeview-HD.....so it can decode the freeview HD channels, and remember at some point in the future most if not all freeview chs will use that format. As for the vertical lines, I do know of one example - a Samsung which is several years old with the same problem. I don't know how much to fix though. If it's a new panel needed, you are prolly better to buy a new tv. |

As for David's assertion about HD Ready, it's mostly nonsense - a good HD Ready set gives a better picture than a cheap Full HD set, but pretty well any decent set now will be Full HD anyway. |

It needs a new LCD panel, it 'may' be the T-Con board, but that's part of the panel anyway, and often not available separately (and when it is, it's often a similar price to a complete panel). But the chance of it been the T-CON is slim.

In my experience banding is fainter and a processing fault is more solid. |

Is there a way to tell if it is banding or processing that is causing the problem?
![]() Presumably he's referring to a couple of lines of faulty pixels?, hence a duff LCD. |

It should be absolutely obvious
