Like in ice skating, one for technical merit (which includes degree of difficulty) and 1 for artistic impression. This would help solve the argument over the best dancers and the best actors/performers.

I used to love the score announcements

funf comma neun, funf comma neun, funf comma acht, sechs comma zero etc

Used to love watching T&D. Have yet to see a rumba which rivals theirs in 1994, both on and off the ice

Why, so the judges can give Kellie two sets of 40's every dance instead of just one?

(Translation to English from Bitterese: It really wouldn't fix anything.)

If you had split scoring you would then have two scores which would combined to give a total, which would then be combined with another score to give the total. For the country that thought the alternative vote was too complicated, the Strictly scoring is going to remain as simple as it can get.

As many have pointed out in other threads, Kellie;s 'VW' to Oom Pah Pah was high in stomping and exuberance but contained very little VW. So with scores out of 5 she could have got 4 or 5 for her energy and throwing herself into the dance but the judges would have found it difficult to give more than 3 for technical merit, giving a combined score of 7 or 8 out of 10, which would have been acceptable

Oh, I get you, but the thing is, the judges wouldn't be able to handle the responsibility of being fair with the two scores.

This is only an entertainment show, not a championship. I think BBC should try and get only Celebrities with no previous dance experience and then it will be fair playing field.

Considering that most celebrities are in the entertainment industry, you wouldn't find very many of those.

So you're stuck with newsreaders, politicians and sportsmen? But only sportsmen who never took a dance class to help with their sport (ie, no more gymnasts). Sounds like a boring series to me.

Two votes? Bollocks. They can't even use the one they've got properly.

I agree in principle with the two vote system (the example given using 'oom pah pah' is a good one) but I think a drastic re-think of the panel would be needed to make it work.
The judges need a good technical knowledge of Ballroom and Latin to make that work and i don't think the majority do.
They're great with the artistic interpretation (especially Bruno) but that's not enough for a dual mark system.

I'll refer you to the many threads about replacing the judges

I'd like to see separate marks for technique and performance. There doesn't have to be 2 sets of marks from each judge, but 2 sets of judges marking different aspects of the dance. For example :

Craig and Bruno should mark performance

Len and another judge who knows what the technique is (unlike Darcey) should mark technique.

len saw no technique in jay's showdance yet lapped up the lindy hop thing as if it was the second coming. Time for grizzled len to leave the process...

I think you read the title but not the idea. Their single vote is simply split into marks for dancing technique and putting on a show. It stops them hiding a rubbish dance behind the usual "you gave it everything", " you great are fun to watch" platitudes and giving an undeserved 7 or 8 while marking someone way down for having a hand in the wrong place, doing a heel lead at the wrong time or accidentally taking a foot off the floor.

Or just "twenty" once.

I don't seem to remember Len saying there was no technique in Jay's showdance; more that he thought it was disappointing (which it was) it simply wasn't "Showy" enough. The lindy hop was full on "showy" - I'm not an expert on lindy hop technique, but one of my colleagues is, and she thought it was "Ace!"

And three of the four of them aren't qualified to judge technique as they have never learned the dances themselves......

IF they were ever to get a split vote, they would need to get a second ballroom specialist on the panel so two judges score on technique and two on performance to even things up - on DOI they had Karen Barber and Robin Cousins judging the skating and the other two idiots judging on performance...... And even then Jason Gardiner used to throw his toys out of the pram when the skaters and viewers didn't agree with him!
