Nope - it was previously announced on Christmas Day in 1994, 2005 and 2011.

After all, that will be the song that is at the top of the charts when we wake up on December 25th.”

No - the charts go from Friday to Thursday, so the chart announced on Friday will cover all the day, not just from 1pm (as it's being announced before Top of the Pops, unlike the years I mentioned above).

Hmmm. @justinbieber @edsheeran time to do the right thing boys. #giveback

Justin Bieber ‏@justinbieber 4h
I'm hearing this UK Christmas race is close...but the @Choir_NHS single is for charity. So...

Justin Bieber ‏@justinbieber 4h
so for 1 week it's ok not to be #1. Let's do the right thing & help them win. It's Christmas. @Choir_NHS good luck http://www.nhsno1.com/download

This is what it's all about. Merry Christmas

We dont have anything like a Christmas #1 song, its just another chart week for us filled with holiday songs. So I dont think he really cares or even knew about being on top this week since its likely he goes back to #1 next week. P.S. I'm not a fan, but I will give him the nod for moving away from his "spoiled brat" image.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up for me!

I remember Tuesdays waiting for the chart too.

That gave the chance for Music week to publish them the following day and the bookrs to get the acts sorted for Top of the Pops on Thursday.

But yes, by he time Tom Browne played the chart in full on Sunday (fingers on the cassette/radio record buttons everyone) it was an "old chart" and the new one was about to be calculated.”

Surely you mean 'Fluff' Freeman or, at a stretch, Tony Blackburn.
I, too, remember the chart coming out on Tuesdays and being played in full the following Sunday, and it didn't matter a jot that it was 5 days old. Life didn't have to belt along at 100 miles an hour in those days. We weren't all waiting for the next thing to happen.”

I remember Tom Browne too. He did do the chart but I can't remember when exactly though.

I don't usually take any notice of the singles chart and haven't done for several years, but I am rather delighted that Justin Bieber (who is perhaps the most hated man on the planet by music fans above the age of 15) has been pipped to the 2015 Christmas No. 1 spot by the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir, just as I have been equally delighted whenever the X-Factor winner has been pipped in previous years (although, regrettably, that was not a frequent event).

I notice that Louisa's Johnson's version of "Forever Young" has dropped three places to No. 12. It's a Bob Dylan song, so obviously not bland enough for X-Factor fans.

Bearing in mind X-Factor was pretty much created to give an "ITV act" the Christmas No.1, now that it has completely failed to do that, can we hope they put it and us out of it's misery. ??

Good!

I'll even let them off for featuring the dreadful Coldplay.

Bet Jeremy Hunt had been furiously downloading that Bieber tune, all week!

It would appear that NHS staff are not as busy as they claim.

Great news that all the streaming of Bieber didn't pay off! Not close either. 127k and 96k.

I loved his Tweet urging his fans to buy the choir's single.

Glad that the NHS choir got to number 1.
I find it the most acceptable dreadful dirge out of a bad bunch of contenders though.

What an utterly pathetic comment that really is

Anyway, fair play to Bieber for his tweet, people may say it's PR driven, but he really didn't have to do it, and it's nice to have a different type of number 1

No but the guy all but issued a proclamation to his followers to lay off the buying/streaming and transfer temporarily to the NHS.

If Bieber(whom I know next to nothing about) gets back to number one next week I think yet another line can be drawn in the sand in chart statistics and chart history. Acts now not far off commanding their audience when to push numbers or not.

Very few are able to, this year only Justin and Adele have given any sort of impressive sales.

It's brilliant that the NHS single got to number 1 for Christmas and raised lots of money for charity, and neither Beiber nor X Factor got a look-in ( hooray! ) but...
who's going to remember what was Christmas number 1 in 2015 in 10 yrs time? or even next year?
It really doesn't have the cultural impact any more and it probably never will again.

Confusion - despite NHS choir getting the number one, the woman on the top 40 advert thing said Beiber had bagged the xmas number one for this year??
