Thought he was perfectly fine, much better than Jack and the latter few Dara years. The set is still terrible though

At least they've reverted back to the desk-style set design. I think Rhod did ok, he has a jolly disposition which Jack didn't have. I think he'll be fine once he settles
YF though...jeez, they need to STOP the comedy skits, putting helmets on the boys heads because they are 'titans' is just not funny. The bloke inserting himself into the interviews, not funny. The laughs come from the chat generated by the fired candidate bitching about the others...just leave it at that. |

I do like Jack Dee. I think he's a good comedian. But I think I agree with most people who say that he wasn't a good fit for this show, especially with Romesh Ranganathan who I just find unbearable.
Rhod Gilbert seems to be a pretty good fit I think. Sarcy downbeat comedian hosts might work on something like 'Have I got News For You' where appearing to be jaded by it all works well. Well, not just can work, they actually do work on things like that. But for The Apprentice I think you need someone who appears to have more enthusiasm and has the knack of lively banter with the fired contestant. It needs that quick pace I think. This seems to fit Rhod like a glove in my opinion. |

The laughs come from the chat generated by the fired candidate bitching about the others...just leave it at that. NOT funny. It's not like 2003 when they suddenly had the technology to go mad with this sort of daft visual gimmick and it was a new novelty. Back then you only had to replace someone's head with somebody else's and it was absolutely hilarious. Because it wasn't something we were used to seeing done with video in this type of show. Now in 2016 if it isn't genuinely funny then it's just shit. It's about as funny as Rhod saying "Imagine if they all wore Greek helmets" and trying to pass it off as a joke. I think that due to the fact that the boys team had already called themselves The Titans in a tongue in cheek way that the joke had already been exhausted. No need to repeat it and state the obvious. It doesn't make it funnier. As you say the humour should come more naturally and be more spontaneous. I know that a lot of people seem to hate Adrian Chiles, and I know that he isn't a comedian, but for some reason the humour worked incredibly well when he was the host, and he did a great job I think. It's more evident now when you see examples of You're Fired when it doesn't work too well or flow well. I think the problem is something you see more of nowadays than before. When before a show worked they allowed the magic to work and ran with it. Now though, if the producers see something funny and it's working, they have to interfere and try too hard to make something funnier and try to ramp it up to 11. I definitely think You're Hired worked so much better when it wasn't trying so hard to make itself a comedy show. When it was just a show chatting to the fired contestant which just happened to be very funny through the chat it worked brilliantly. I think the last series showed how much the quality had dropped when it tried too hard to be a comedy show. It does seem to have improved a bit again though with this series. For the most part anyway. I think Rhod will be okay. |

Rhod Gilbert was great, a natural fit, much more able to go with and inclusive than Jack Dee, who I found boring.
Dara was still the best by far for me. |

I thought Rhod Gilbert was brilliant! Really enjoyed it! I felt that Jack Dee wasn't enthusiastic enough. They should have that male guest (not Matt Edmonson) , more frequently.. I'm not fan of the Katherine Ryan and Matt etc.

He also let the "business guest" talk a lot more - but then she is used to doing TV from Bargain Hunt. Will be interesting when they have a non-media type as business guest how much he still gets them to interact. |

Dara has this speech impediment which none of the world apart from a narrow part of Ireland understands. How the hell anyone employs him, I never know,,?

I thought he did a great job, much better than last year's YF stint.
Not keen on Matt Edmondson though, that will be the other predictable list for the coming weeks (Josh Widdicombe, Katherine Ryan, Nick Grimshaw (please forbid) |

YF is a rotten show.
Gilbert suits it perfectly. |

Only just watching the first one tonight - I am soooo pleased they have dumped last years awful format. Shame as I like Jack Dee, but he just wan't very funny in this, and that Romesh? Jesus, I get that he is trying to do the played down, deadpan thing, but trying to do that alongside someone who does it better, like Jack Dee is pointless and does neither of them any favours. If find Romesh unfunny at the best of times, but in this he was painful.

Only watched 2 episodes last year, couldn't stand wooden Jack and extremely unfunny Romesh.
Have just 'caught up' on the first episode of the new series and can confirm I will continue to watch it. I thought Rhod was brilliant and loved the fact its gone back to its original formula, with 3 guests and a desk too! |
