The Libertines UK Tour

Anyone going to see them on their forthcoming arena tour? My nearest venue that they're playing at is Cardiff (one of the smallest arenas on this tour too) but unfortunately I'm away on that date and the only one I can go to is the O2 in London. Now I absolutely HATE huge arenas and would usually avoid a place like the O2 but I bought a ticket because I really want to see The Libertines and it's the O2 or nothing for me! I never thought they would tour again so I can't miss this opportunity to see them!

I do think vast arenas like this are totally the wrong sort of venue for a band like The Libertines though, but I guess they're at that level that they can fill venues like this now, and good for them. I think their music will always be more suited to smaller, more intimate venues though. Then again not as many of their fans would get the chance to see them if they only played small venues, of course. They'd have to do about 10 nights in each venue to satisfy all the fans that want to see them and I can't see them coping with that. Especially not Peter anyway, who is surely still in recovery and going by what happened with the cancelled Camden Ballroom and Manchester Ritz gigs back in September. I guess playing bigger venues but less dates makes it a lot easier all round for the band, less exhausting for Peter and hopefully no more cancelled gigs! I hope Peter is doing ok and will be excited and raring to go once the tour starts! Despite hating the O2 venue I can't wait to see and hear the band play all their classics as well as many songs from their latest album, which I think is simply brilliant.

Also, with Carl Barat being a huge favourite of mine, I really hope Carl does a UK tour with The Jackals sometime in the coming year too as I'm so longing to hear all their songs performed live. I think Let It Reign is a fantastic album!

I'm going to the Glasgow gig. Looking forward to it. Never got to see them back in the day, but I do like the new album. They could've disgraced themselves. I was horrified when I heard it was being produced by the same guy who produced One Direction. But it's very good. Some excellent songs. I'm hoping for a mix of all three albums - maybe with Down In Albion as an encore....

Yes, a mix of songs from all 3 albums would be good, plus a couple of Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things songs would be amazing. Whatever they play though I'm just thrilled to be seeing them! What, no else going to see them?!

Saw them last night at the SECC. Well first of all our fears proved groundless. They're now a proper arena band, yet still terrifically intimate. The famous songs - Can't Stand Me Now, Time For Heroes - now feel like standards. I'd urge anybody who hasn't seen them to catch them live this year. You may be very, very surprised.
Just brilliant.
