Reading Challenge 2016 (216 in 2016)
I thought I would start the reading challenge thread early. I am going to aim for 50 books in 2016. Didn't quite reach that target this year and have only made it to 30 books so far.
Looking forward to reading about all of the books you finish in 2016. |

I think I will aim for 100. Can't see me getting to 216 but I think I'll get to 100 for my target.

I'm going to try for 45 again for 2016, even though I failed in 2015.

1) Grave Peril by Jim Butcher.
I'm re-reading the Dresden files at the moment. A bit less taxing than starting some of my new books I have to read. |

I am going to aim for 50 books again this year.
I only managed to read 21 books last year so I am going to go for it this year. Need to spend more time reading and less time on the IPad! |

I aimed for 50 in 2015, I did 52, but tbh most of those were in the second half of the year because I was very sick in the first half and motivation for reading was non-existent. 75 is my target this year since I'll be starting from the very beginning of the year.

1) Career of Evil - Robert Galbraith
9/10 - another brilliant book by Robert Galbraith - absolutely love the gripping storylines and the relationship between Cormoran and Robin, including the will they/won't they aspect. Roll on book no.4. |

First book of the year done!
1. The Perks of being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky 8/10 I have read this once before and thought I would start my year with a familiar book that I liked. Enjoyed it again the second time around. This is a coming-of-age type story about an awkward teenager called Charlie who writes letters telling the recipient about his struggles growing up, family life and his first year at High School. |

1) Career of Evil - Robert Galbraith
2)Big Time, the Life of Adam Faith by David & Caroline Stafford 7/10 - as I mentioned on the other thread, a lot of Adam's fans dislike this book as the authors are quite derogatory about him in places, but if you can ignore this then it is quite detailed about his life and has some lovely photos. I was particularly interested in the history of rock and roll & skiffle in the late 50s/early 60s which I didn't know a lot about. |

I'm going to aim for 52 this year - hopefully 1 per week should be achievable. 1 down already:
1. Even Dogs in the Wild - Ian Rankin I always enjoy the Rebus books and this was no exception |

I'm going to aim for 216 for this year. I'm feeling a bit revitalized reading-wise, and since I now drive my parents around, I hope to get more reading done while waiting at doctors' offices.
![]() I have a secondary goal of trying to finish up as many books as I can, which I started but left unfinished in previous years. |

Not taken part in the challenge before but think I'll give it a go this year.
I do keep a note of what I read though so know that I read 54 books last year (even with one book taking nearly two months as it was so tedious but I hate to give up). I'm going to aim for 75 this year. So far I've managed 1/ Flesh House by Stuart MacBride Very readable. It's fast paced but over long and could really do with a decent editor to rein the author in. I think 100 pages could easily be cut without really losing anything. Also I was disappointed by the ending. 2/ So Me by Graham Norton Pretty much what you'd expect. Enjoyable but I doubt I'd ever pick it up again so it's off to the charity shop |

216 in 2016 :)
1. Sweat Heart - Chelsea Cain 7/1
Pan Books (PanMacMillan) , 402 pages <Thriller> Although absurd at times, the characterisations of the supporting cast kept me interested in the further adventures in the macabre relationship of hardcore serial killer Gretchen Lowell and her supposed nemesis, Archie. 2. The Marriage Plot - lgend 8/10 Fourth Estate (HarperCollins), 406 pages <Literary> World class interpretation of young romance from college through to post grad life, by world class writer. Even a over exposed theme like this is given new life by Eugenides as he weaves mental health, WASP families, jocks v nerds, unrequited love, platonic friendships, searching for religion into this very well crafted drama. 3. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - Stephen King 8/10 NEL (Hodder & Stoughton), 296 pages <Horror> So much better as a re-read, a nine year old girl gets lost in the New Hampshire woods, this is her simple yet captivating story about whether she can survive, and when the Red Sox hero Tom Gordon can help her! 4. Station Eleven - Emily St. John Mandel 8/10 Picador (Pan MacMillan), 333 pages <Speculative Fiction> Exceptionally well crafted reality and a supreme use of non-linear story telling, as the performance of King Lear in a Toronto theatre is set as the focal point for an amazing, epic story, that manages to raise thought provoking issues about the human condition, without necessarily giving the reader the answer, which makes the book even more startling. Recommended read. 5. Boo - Neil Smith 8/10 Windmill Books, (Penguin-Random House), 310 pages <Magical Realism> Thirteen year-old Oliver 'Boo' Dalrymple dies, from a heart condition, whilst at school… or so he thinks, until he wakes up in Heaven… A truly innovative, captivating work that manages to take allegorical looks at an eclectic range of issue from childhood, mental health, mob mentality, afterlife, God and more. Recommended! |

I'm going to have a go at D. H. Lawrence this year. Not Chatterley, either Sons And Lovers to The Rainbow.
