Any connection gurus able to help
Hi,
We have just uprated our TV/sound system, and I now feel a bit of a fool, as I am struggling to get things working correctly. The TV is a Sony KD-55X8509C, linked up to a Sony HT-RT5 soundbar via HDMI. We have a Sky 2TB HD box, which I have connected via the soundbar, and that all works fine. We also have a old Sony DVD recorder (RDR-GX120S) that we sometimes use purely to record programmes from our Sky+ onto DVD so that we can watch them when we go away. This is the bit that I can't get working now. The DVD recorder has SCART connections only. I am wondering if a new HDMI equipped DVD recorder would make sense, a bit like the Panasonic DMR-EX97EB-K DVD Recorder, but given how often we use it, the old one would be ok if I can get it working. Is anyone able to help at all? Many thanks |

Scart from Sky box to DVD recorder to record Sky.
Scart from DVD recorder to TV to watch DVD. |

Essentially adding the soundbar shouldn't have made any difference to how you connected up the DVD recorder as you probably cannot connect it via the sound bar anyway. So it should have remained connected to the Sky box and TV as it always was. Probably how Chasing Shadows describes above.
If you did upgrade to a HDMI equipped recorder you would still need the SCART from Sky box to recorder to record Sky programmes. The HDMI would simply allow you to connect the DVD to the soundbar replacing the SCART to the TV. |

Thank you both for your quick replies.
I have just rechecked the connections again, and found I had partially pulled the Scart out of the Sky box, so it wasn't connected properly. Having reconnected it is fine. Given how rarely we do record onto DVD it doesn't make sense to buy a replacement until the old Sony dies completely. Many thanks again. |
