What's your favourite Christmas album of all time?
Mine has to be "The Twelve Songs Of Christmas" by Jim Reeves. The two sides of the LP are distinctive in their own way. Side one being a mixture of novelty and beautiful ballads. The highlights being "An Old Christmas Card" and a splendid version of "White Christmas". Side two is classic carols including "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" and "Silent Night". Fantastic album. Well worth checking out.

Mariah Carey- Merry Christmas
For me it's a great album balanced by nicely sung traditional hymns and the Phil Spector style upbeat numbers. Plus I love her vocals. |

. But this one is more than AIWFCIY probably good enough to rank as one of her better studio albums.

The Lancashire Hotpots' Christmas Cracker.
Some great witty folk songs, guaranteed to put a smile on your face. In fact, I've been known to play it in May. |

My favourites are:
Destiny's Child - "8 Days Of Christmas". This has been played every year since it's release. Isn't Christmas for me until this is played. Leona Lewis - "Christmas, With Love". Love this album, and like the one above this will be played every year and will be a classic for me. |

Perhaps not what the OP wanted, but Treasure by The Cocteau Twins is my favourite; it came out just before Christmas and the opening song, Ivo, always seems to be a very seasonal track to me. Perhaps it's the bells.

Weirdly enough I always associate Bjork with Christmas especially Post, as I bought it around Christmas time. Vespertine though with it’s icy frosty tones is almost in itself a Christmas album. Plus not forgetting Kate bush 50 Words For Snow, not a Christmas album but winter themed that fits the slow paced nature of the season a nice one to have with dinner.

When it comes to albums I have to go for some classics. Apologies but I couldn't pick just one so I've narrowed it down to the following: However, a few years ago Lady Antebellum released 'On This Winter's Night' and that in my opinion has been one of the best Christmas albums in years. They do an outstanding version of Donny Hathaway's 'This Christmas'. Quote:
Superb choice. This is a must in my opinion if you like Christmas music. Ella Fitzgerald's 'Ella Wishes You A Swinging Christmas' is also up there. Her take on some of the standards is just sublime. The musicianship that went into this album like the aforementioned Phil Spector album is pretty impressive. Nat King Cole's 'The Magic of Christmas.' It's been repackaged and reissued several times and he recorded many more Christmas tracks than those just on this album, but the tracks from this album are essential listening. I particularly like Nat's takes on 'I Saw Three Ships,' 'Deck the Halls' and 'Silent Night.' My Grandmother's played this every Christmas so it does have some sentimental value. Dean Martin's 'The Dean Martin Christmas Album' (1966). This is another one that my Grandmother played when I was growing up. 'Silver Bells' has been recorded many times but for me there's something about Deano's version that beats the rest. I also love the versions of 'Marshmallow World' and 'I'll Be Home for Christmas' from this album. I'd say Deano's tied with the version of 'Marshmallow World' Johnny Mathis recorded and Smokey Robinson's 'I'll Be Home For Christmas' for my favourite versions. Frank Sinatra's 'A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra' Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Jingle Bells, The Christmas Waltz, Hark the Herold Angels Sing, The First Noel and Adeste Fidelis (O Come All Ye Faithful) rank among the highlights. Elvis Presley's 'Elvis' Christmas Album' (1957) It's also been reissued and repackaged but this is for me where the best of Elvis' Christmas tracks originate. 'Santa Claus is Back in Town' kicks off proceedings and is followed up with his take on 'White Christmas,' which I read somewhere was inspired by The Drifters' version (famously featured on the 'Home Alone' soundtrack). This album also features Elvis' 'Blue Christmas.' For me the best track is Elvis' rendition of 'Here Comes Santa Claus.' |

I think Celine Dion's "These Are Special Times" is very underated. It's the only Christmas album I can tolerate.
It was once the biggest selling Christmas album of all time until Buble released his. |

A few alternatives amongst the many jazz artists' Christmas albums.
Oscar Peterson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dks2YM2U4NU Diana Krall https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RASGDeVF-5s Chet Baker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kjblvXfrG4 A compilation of 34 tunes from some "big band" artists. (lots of Andrews Sisters) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hA6koTRvSgY There's a couple by Kenny "twiddly, diddly," G, but I don't recommend them. |

Boney M - Christmas Party
A really obscure French one called Petit Papa Noel. It's a compilation of Christmas songs in French. I picked it up in France years ago and my French teacher at school asked for a copy one year so I gave it to her 😃 |
