Can't see the problem with releasing the votes from the previous series at the start of the new series. It's not as if it is going to be relevant at that point.

The reason that is being used by the BBC isn't valid enough in my opinion.
The relevance, is that it might be embarrassing to any of those who got very few votes in past series and might discourage possible contestants from accepting an offer to go on Strictly in the future, in case it happened to them. No one in the public eye wants to be perceived as less popular than they imagine themselves to be. Too much of a reality shock.

This has been explained a number of times, on here, can you not see that?

It's hardly that important to the public.

They could release the voting patterns as a percentage at the start of the new season.

Surely that's as revealing as giving actual figures?

But it would conceal the fact that fewer people actually vote, particularly in the early programmes, than some might imagine.

As much as I would like to know the amount of total votes and/or % per each celeb, I totally understand why they don't, even a year on.
As it stands, no one knows who really is bottom of thepublic vote (maybe in some of them by the judges leaderboard we can work out bottom 2). Moe importantly, it gives the impression that they could be bottom by a handful of votes, but the margin could be huge.
If I was a celebrity, I would not want that to be public.

I don't want the figures for all the shows of the series but just for the final please. It's nice that more contestants can say i was runner up on Strictly but i really would like it clarified at least who was second and third. Even if they dont reveal the actual figures 3rd and 2nd should be announced on the show in the same way 4th place leaves first. It'd be nice to know if Kimberley or Denise got votes, or Georgia or Kellie or Susanna or Natalie or even Simon or Frankie from last year.

My predictions, and i'm bet i'm right too

Jay won by a decent margin. Georgia 2nd, closely followed by Kellie 3rd.

Abbey just clinched it by a few %. Susanna 2nd, Natalie far away at 3rd.

Caroline won by a huge margain. Simon 2nd away by at least 10%, Frankie 3rd.

Louis got over half the vote, Kimberley 2nd and Denise 3rd seperately only by about 4-6%.

Think it can help a celebrity's career if they're a 'runner-up' on Strictly.

So if there are 2 Runners-up it means Strictly has a bigger carrot to dangle in front of potential celebrities when the PTB are trying to persuade people to join in.

The only ones I'd really like to know are for the dance off celebs just to see how many times the judges keep tallied with the public vote - but that's even less likely to happen

Having looked back at this topic after the passage of some time I find myself still to be of the opinion that the public vote data should be published -- DWTS do it without any apparent problems or complaints from the competitors, in fact they even use public votes to decide what dance style and/or music the couples will be facing at certain points in the competition (Artem and his partner were not given what they'd asked the public for one time, but they just took what they were given and did their best despite it not being what the celeb was really comfortable with)

I realise there is a case to be made that the celeb might be upset at a low public vote, but they have to put up with appalling judges votes from time to time and those aren't made secret, let alone Craig's nastily voiced put downs. To those who seem so sure that the celebs shouldn't be told because it might hurt their feelings I would suggest that the Beeb should ask the CONTESTANTS whether they want their public votes revealed and act accordingly!

Having joint runners up is one of the more annoying recent changes.

I think however that Natalie beat Susanna just because she had a very good final show dance and final dance. Not enough to win, but I do think that the 2013 final was the closest final ever. The only time I really did not have a clue whose name was going to be called out.

I would like to know the proper 2nd and 3rd placers too. Find it very annoying and nonsensical. Surely the celeb would like to know.

My predictions differ slightly:
Kellie 2nd, Georgia 3rd
Natalie 2nd, Susannah 3rd
Frankie 2nd, Simon 3rd - I don't think Caroline had a huge margin
Kimberley 2nd, Denise 3rd - agree on that one

I agree with all of those other than Natalie and Susannah - I think Susannah was hugely popular. I liked Caroline but I think she was lucky to win - Frankie was the better dancer in my opinion.

My apologies folks for misinterpreting for what I thought was being said about the public voting results on DWTS. I'm afraid I was going by what I thought was being said on the clips I've watched rather than the published information, I had wrongly understood from what I'd heard in some interviews that competitors were aware, not only what the final public votes were, but also how votes were trending before the end of voting.

I still stand by my last paragraph though -- information is power, even if you prefer to stay blind to it and the choice to be blind or not should be for the competitors to decide in the end, not BBC executives or pontificating armchair pundits like us unless any can make a bloody good point otherwise

I think it's stupid not to reveal the percentages relating to public popularity -- after all that is a large part of the deciding factor keeping any celebrity in the contest and they need to be informed if it's a weak point so that they can take appropriate action in the same way that they need to pay attention to any criticism from the judges, otherwise they might just as well keep the judges' scores and comments secret too!

As for the issue of commercial confidentiality -- that's obviously just a load of obfuscation and dingo droppings from anally retentive Beeb execs.
You don't need the voting figures to know why celebs aren't being voted for though - things like DS point the reasons out very well. It's also apparently that the celebs (or their PR people) monitor such things for handy tips and hints. Kellie was pulled up for the screaming issue early last series and was almost visibly biting the inside of her cheeks to curb this from at least a quarter of the way in. The way the celebs present themselves on ITT often has a direct correlation with what has been discussed on forums. Far better than a voting breakdown.

Interesting. Definitely agree that they should announce second and third as they used to!

I would say....

Jay won by a large margin, Kellie second, Georgia third.
Caroline won only by a small percentage closely followed by Frankie then Simon.
Abbey again only by a small percentage ahead of Susanna then Natalie.
Louis way ahead of Kimberley second and Denise third

EDIT: I'm giving Kevin three second places there

I think as someone who does vote on the show that if we spend our money we should find out the voting figures or at least 2nd and 3rd
