Katy Perry releases her new album in 2016 and again the lead single is a #1 success although the album itself isn't as successful as Prism.

Adele's 25 ends 2016 as the UK's biggest selling album for a second consecutive year.

Calvin Harris follows up his #2 hit How Deep Is Your Love? with a massive #1 hit topping the charts in the UK as well as Europe.

The following songs will be big hits in the UK in 2016:

Elle King - Ex's & Oh's
Lukas Graham - 7 Years
Matt Simons - Catch And Release (Deepend Remix)
Mike Posner - I Took A Pill In Ibiza (SeeB Remix)
Alan Walker - Faded

A brand new England football anthem by a popular artist is released during the summer to co-incide with UEFA Euro2016 which tops the UK chart but plummets down the chart after England crash out in the semi finals....as per usual.

London Grammar release their eagerly anticipated (by me at least) second album that tops the UK album chart and the lead single provides them with their first top 10 hit (yes, I predicted this to happen in 2015 so hopefully if i keep predicting this each year it will eventually come true!!! )”

I agree with this. I see Bruno Mars new album as the big pop release of 2016 with 1 Million sales in the US. Taylor was the big release of 2014, Adele 2015...I think 2016 will be Bruno's year.

Lush Life is weird one. MTV were playing the video back in October as part of their MTV Push section where they showcase an upcoming artist.

It's just that the record company, for some reason, decided the song needs a pre-order on iTunes when download sales at ever decreasing. Yet on Spotify, the single is not far off making the top 50.

If commercial radio stations started playing the song from next week, then Lush Life would soon rocket up the chart. Never Forget You was given an OA/OS release, and that song took 9 weeks to peak in the UK charts.

Jason Derulo's Try Me sounds exactly the same as Kygo's remix of Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye (literally chord structure and tempo are almost the same)

Are Kygo and Matoma the same person? They're both Norwegian DJ/producers so who knows?

Lady Gaga will release new album which she will declare is the "album of the century".

It won't be album of the century.

I doubt that....I'm sure Artpop has humbled her.
I think she'll continue to move away from her pop roots and either do another jazz album or a stripped back acoustic album with no electropop elements at all. It will be critically acclaimed but won't set the charts alight.

I'd love it if she went back to doing what she does best: damn good pop songs

Just so that I am right on this, before she concentrated on electro-pop and become known for wearing weird and wacky costumes, she performed as a jazz singer playing the piano at gigs in her native New York.

I was never all that impressed with either the jazz or the stripped back songs she's done at the piano. There is nothing wrong with her doing electro pop as long as they are good songs like her first album. The problem with Artpop wasn't that it was electro pop but that the songs weren't very good and had a weird confusing structure.

Going add the following to my above list.

Adele - Water Under The Bridge
Coldplay - Hymn For The Weekend
DJ Snake feat. Bipolar Sunshine - Middle
Imany - Don't Be So Shy (Filatov & Karas Remix)
Little Mix feat. Jason Derulo - Secret Love Song
Rachel Platten - Stand By You
Radistai feat. Daddy Was A Milkman - Breathe In
The Chainsmokers feat. ROZES - Roses
twenty one pilots - Stressed Out

With radio and music video airplay I can see these songs also becoming chart hits too.

Stressed Out sounds like a number one to me.

21 Pilots will finally get the recognition and airplay they deserve.
Only not at the 2016 Grammys cause they were blanked. Maybe in a few years they can get nominated for Best New Artist. Stupid Grammy voters.

Alessia Cara will do quite well VERY SOON with her debut tune 'Here'.

https://youtu.be/UKp2CrfmVfw

Samples 'Glory Box' by Portishead (or 'Ikes Rap 2' by Isaac Hayes if you remember that one from way back)

She's 19 & Canadian. One to watch !

Great call and I agree 100%! Seeing her show in a few weeks in LA. So stoked. Her ep was awesome.

Good to see some love for Twenty One Pilots. Blurryface is a fantastic album and Stressed Out deserves the success it's getting in the states. I'm hoping it'll get noticed here in the UK soon.

Oh and Rihanna, we're still waiting .

Nice one, enjoy the gig ! Alessia has been voted runner-up in the BBC Sound of 2016 annual 'ones to watch' feature.

It's quite often a good indicator of future talent in the months to come.

I'm actually a little underwhelmed with the BBC Sound of 2016 poll contenders.

Jack Garrett has clearly won BBC's Sound of 2016 poll. It's as if there was no real alternative winner compared to 2015 where James Bay won the Critics Choice Awards at the Brit Awards, but Years & Years (deservedly so, imo) won the BBC Sound of 2015.

As for Alessia Cara, I don't mind Here but it's far from being my favourite song around at the moment. Maybe the next single will grab my attention more.

Re: BBCs Sound of 2016 poll, same thoughts tbh, I thought Alessia would nail it amongst the poor competition.No-one else really stands out as 'the next big thing'.
Good call regarding Years & Years.. 'Communion' was one of the 2 albums I bothered to purchase last year. (The other being Adele '25', purely as a Christmas present though)

You should really check out Outlaws by Alessia Cara. She's the real deal.

And here's a live acoustic version of Here from Carson Dalys show. So good. Seriously. Even if you don't care for the studio version. Check it.

I'm also left expecting more from Alessia.
Using a really famous sample for your first single doesn't impress me.

She is. She was photographed in the studio with Red One on Twitter a few weeks ago.
