Romesh and Jack Dee
What was it between them? At the start of each You're Fired, Jack would take the pi55 out of Romesh, as if to start banter, but Romesh would just look offended. I can think of a few explainations for this:
1) Jack wasn't taking the pi55 at all, and was genuinely insulting Romesh. Did anything go on between them? Do they get along in real life? 2) Romesh is too socially awkward to know how to respond to banter, and so looks offended (even though he's not) because he can't think of anything better to do. In support of this theory were his useless interviews of the candidates in Sunday's You're Fired (particularly poor Ruth, whom he blamed for his shitty interview of her), as it shows he cannot make a funny conversation flow or respond to other people's humour. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Last edited by Squatch : 22-12-2015 at 15:52. Reason: Typo and ETA |

Romesh was just a bad choice to have as a house guest on the show. He looks out of place and doesn't seem to like it when someone has a comment funnier than his.

That's how Romesh always acts. I definitely don't think he was genuinely offended.

It's just an act. He pretends to be offended.
I can't believe how some people completely misread situations. |

Do you not watch much TV?
That sort of opener is quite common (WILTY). It would ruin the flow (and the joke tbh) if Romesh responded. |

Lol that someone actually that Romesh was offended. Talk about the joke going over your head...
As a sidenote, they were both poor choices to do the show. Dara was a better host, though his style did get stale, it was much better. Stephen Fry might do a good job with a different comedian instead of the same one (aka Romesh) every week alongside him. |

Romesh at least seems interested in the programme and often made intelligent points about the candidates' performances. The sketches were mainly unfunny and always out of place, but that's the producer's fault.
I'd keep Romesh and lose Jack. Two comedians always seemed like overkill anyway, even during Dara's reign. |

The only legit criticism I've seen of Dara is that he liked to bring his friends on the show - which... makes no sense. Dara is a comedian, therefore every comedian that appears is automatically given the title of "mate of Dara" meaning every comedian ever is just another reason to be pissed at Dara apparently.
In no way did the various "mate of Dara"s negatively impact on the show or take away the limelight from the respective candidates. But this year, we had Romesh and his utterly cringeworthy skits far too many times. How anyone found them funny is beyond me and I honestly can't see why people preferred that over Dara who was far more personable than Jack Dee - who, I think its fair to say, seemed a bit stilted and scripted. |

Of course Romesh wasn't offended.
I would lose both of them next year, although I find Jack Dee so endearing I would put up with him again. Romesh has really spoilt the show this year. He should have one guest appearance next year and then never again. |

They are both similar, deadpan, depressive, socially awkward. They made a good match.

I'm in the minority here, but I really enjoy them both! My OH and I always laugh at their interactions and the running joke of Jack Dee's negative intros.
We used to enjoy the old 'you're fired' with Dara, but for us they've breathed a new dry wit into the format. And as other people have said on here, Romesh makes properly insightful comments about the candidates. (Can't stand the new set etc, but that's a different gripe!) |

The third explanation is that they both agreed it would be funnier for Romesh to say nothing and look offended then for him to have a witty come-back. That was the comic persona he has adopted for the show. Clearly Jack's opening comments were scripted, and they could have scripted something for Romesh had they chosen to.
Personally I don't like that kind of humour. Even knowing neither of them are serious and both are getting paid for it. After a while, the repeated insults and put-downs start to seem like bullying. I have the same issue with QI and the opening put-downs of Alan Davis. |

I think they are both rubbish and should be replaced. Jack Dee is all 'me, me,me'. Bring back Dara and lets have a different guest comedian each week. Romesh is funny as a bucket of paint.

If Romesh Ranganathan can't swear then he basically has no comedy material.
I remember watching him on an episode of 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown where he was engaging in banter with Johnny Vegas. Regardless of what you think of Johnny Vegas's style of comedy, he is quick-witted and inventive and he absolutely wiped the floor with Romesh. All of his responses were cutting, imaginative and funny, whereas Romesh just had to keep falling back on saying "f**k" and "c**t" in his usual faux outrage/offence to raise a laugh. Watching it I really felt embarrassed for Romesh. It was like watching a professional comedian deal with a heckler. |

Romesh is OK, but I've never liked Jack Dee. Least funny comedian on the planet as far as I'm concerned.

Regardless of what went on (if anything) between them, they were both really rather dull and they, combined with the gloomy set, made You're Fired so miserable this year.
