Linking sky +hd to dvd recorder
Hi anyone out there that could help me. I have my sky box linked to my dvd recorder, all cables are correct as I have transferred from sky in the past ( last time February 2015) but now when I try the sound is distorted, wondering if anyone else has had this problem or know how to sort it,once when I was trying sound was ok for couple of minutes then a sort of click then back to distorted sound, Have tried changing cables and even changing dvd recorder but nothing but distortion I have less than 10% left on my sky box,any suggestions. Thanks.

Try connecting the Sky box to your TV via scart (i.e. the same connection and cable that you use to connect to the DVD recorder) and listen to the same audio that your DVD recorder struggled with.
If the audio listening through your TV is also distorted then the problem is with your Sky box. If, however, the audio is fine, then the problem is not with your Sky box or scart cable - it is with the DVD recorder (either its scart input, or the internal mechanisms). Try recording from the DVD recorder's internal tuner - if that sounds fine, then the problem is probably with the scart input on the DVD recorder. If the recordings on the DVDR sound poor, regardless of where the source material is coming from, then the problem is with the internal workings of the DVD recorder itself - and almost certainly consigns it to the scrapheap. |

In addition to the above. If possible try using a different source device for the DVD recorder. ie plug the SCART going to the Sky box into some other device.
The audio from the SCART on the DVD recorder almost certainly goes into an audio buffer IC of some sort which won't necessarily be part of the chain using the internal tuner. So if that IC has died you could get a perfectly clean recording from the tuner which could give the false impression the recorder is OK. Using a different source will help identify the true cause of the distortion. |
