I've also had no problems with 44.0. Still, we all have different configurations of machines, set up our browsers in different ways, go to different sites and the like, so the problems could well exist for those who claim it crashes.

Are there any patterns for the crashes, like particular sites or plugins? Maybe a particular extension is common to those who complain of crashing, in that a change in Firefox has caused an extension to now be problematic? Tried running Firefox in Safe Mode to see if it still crashes?

I'll use this latest release and see if it's as stable and 'light' as Chrome. I stopped using Firefox a while ago because of it freezing/crashing when on Flash intensive pages.
I must admit, I have switched from Firefox to Chrome on my netbooks, and now they dont stutter on Iplayer like Firefox does.

When watching Silent Witness, the CPU usage was at about 3.4Ghz when using Firefox, and the video wasn't smooth. When using Chrome, it was hovering about the 1Ghz mark and was very smooth. 0.88-1.3Ghz.

Just tried watching Silent Witness at full screen on iPlayer using the latest Firefox (32-bit), running on Windows 8.1 (64-bit) with an i7 processor 5500u (four core, 2.4GHz). It ran smooth, utilised about 25% of processor power during this, and Firefox was using about 450MB of RAM (with several tabs open; Firefox has been running on this laptop for about eight hours, taking away two hours when it was sleeping) and Flash about 100MB. Seems fine here.

I do get a bit puzzled about the complaints about high CPU and memory bloat with Firefox, particularly in recent times, because I feel that I'm missing out somewhat. Still, YMMV does spring to mind.

Anyone else having issues with v44 and third party cookies? STV Player requires acceptance of third party cookies, so under Options and Privacy and with "Use custom settings for history" set, select tick box "Accept cookies from sites" to enable the drop-down box, but it wont let you select anything other than "Never".

Same with "Keep until", it wont let you change it from "I close Firefox".

All of that is working here. Maybe try a 'repair' in case the update was corrupted somehow.

Thanks, it was a cookie manager add-on that was causing the issues.

I've just realised that the search box next to the address bar uses Google to search. I've never tried it before. I might start using it instead of hitting the home button and then entering something in that search box. I've seen the search box for ages now, but just thought I'd try it just now and it's, obviously, quicker than having to go to Firefox's home page. So yeah, I suppose I'll be using that from now on when I want to search for something.

If Google happens not to be your preferred search, you can set up for a few others. Click on the magnifying glass at the left hand end.

Yeah, I know you can choose a different search. I suppose I was just saying that I've just realised that it also uses Google to search, as does Firefox's default home page. Thanks for telling me about the magnifying glass thing though, I don't think I would have even bothered with that. It just looked to me to something to click instead of hitting Enter.

I bet Google pays Mozilla a ton for having their search engine included in Firefox, as do the others probably.

Google pays $300 million per annum for three years (to be default)....You can add or delete any search engine you want and it comes with several already loaded and each can be selected as default, so to some extent, it's wasted money IMO, but I guess Joe Average never bothers changing or even knows anything about the search facilities. MS also bid to be default with Bing.

That's most likely why Google pay them as much. To be honest, I find Google to be an excellent search engine. It gives you all the official websites, or pages belonging to whatever it is that you've searched for, first. Bing, however, doesn't manage to do this.
