I often use Firefox because it doesn't come with Flash included. The downside to this is that I have to use another browser if I want to watch a videos on the BBC News site or programmes etc. It's good surfing websites without Flash in your browser. I wish Flash would die off, for adverts and video. Non-Flash adverts are so much better.

I've stopped using flash altogether now. If a site uses flash I avoid it.

Firefox still has trouble navigating up and down smoothly on some sites whereas Chrome, it has no problems. For example, on the NBC News site. Chrome is as smooth as silk with going up and down. I think this is why Firefox can't catch up with Chrome for in usage, because it's not as stable as Chrome is when it comes to navigating. I mean, even Edge is as smooth as silk on the NBC News site when it comes to navigating up and down, and that's with Flash included. I don't know if the NBC News site has Flash adverts on it or not. Anyway, that's just one example.

Just out of curiousity I went to NBC news web site. I had no trouble navigating up & down with Firefox. Maybe because I have set FF for smooth scrolling only. |

I tried the NBC News website too just out of curiosity and found the scrolling jumpy as zx50 has described. This is with the current version of Firefox and also using adblock and flashblock.

Time for v45.0.
Maybe time this thread was abandoned and replaced by a more generically named one? "Firefox versions" perhaps? |

Browsing without Flash is a smoother experience.
On a side note, version 45 killed IE View Light, a very handy addon that gave a open in IE context menu when clicking links. Uninstalling and using the "full" addon did the trick. |

I agree but there are still a couple of sites I use that sadly require it. My compromise was to install flashblock - that way you just get a little logo you need to click on to enable the swf or you can whitelist domains that you trust.

Anyone else use NoScript?
I use it for firefox browsing(it's a firefox addon), it's main purpose is to prevent malicious scripts, but a side effect is blocking instrusive ads and youtube in-video ads. |

But how will we know when there is an update rather than just someone making a normal post?

But it is still the same thread that it always was, nothing has changed except the out-of-date name.

No but when someone posts a new thread about the newest update you know it is out. But when this one gets updated you won't know unless you check the thread out.

True, but the new update postings have been appearing in this thread for a while now anyway.

Which is why I've just gone from 43 to 45. I assume there was a 44?

Yes, v44 was announced in Post #14 of this thread. There were several subsequent updates to 44 mentioned before 45 came out on 8 March.

It's a shame they don't have dynamic titles on DS so that it could contain the latest version number and update every time FF updates.
