It's humourous, really, these people talk more about the episodes than the people who loved it and never fail to catch the episode live. They probably loved it but don't want to admit it.

Just goes to show how everyone sees things differently, thought that was one of the worst produced Doctor Who episodes I've watched since it (re)started in 2005

I've never been a fan of River and was dreading it a little, but this just worked. 9/10 (10/10 if it really is River's swansong).

very nice festive fare. Capaldi and River are a really good combination . The underlying story is really their relationship and l like that they play off each other in a heightened way with the comedy but you then get the earnest more serious bits between them too.

I like that it was the 12th who gave River the screwdriver and that he was the one who took her to Darillium-feels more fitting and completes the continuity of River's story. Nicely tackled by SM considering the earlier short stories he did with the 11th going there.

Didn't really care about the supporting characters. Inoffensive and fun and I would watch again only for the chemistry of River and the 12th. Capaldi does comedy and drama well in equal measure and I love his Doctor

I enjoyed it, and will vote excellent, just because the grinches on here who enjoy sticking forks in their own eyes shouldn't dominate xmas

But I'm not hanging around to read the bashing either. 'Tis the time to be merry.

Best wishes to all xx

Yeah I've more or less given up on the regular series and hadn't watched a whole Christmas episode in years but River always brings me back so I absolutely adored that episode.

I thought it was very good, for that kind of Xmas Who thing.

But I think I'm just less into DW. Although this might be because it seems to be "in space" an awful lot these days.

Maybe an entire Earth-based series would help: Haunted mansions, something in the sewers, UNIT etc etc

Merry Christmas to you too CD93. Thanks for all your contributions to the spoilers thread over the year. A long wait now until next series.

Maybe I had too much turkey, I found it a little dull, It did have a few good bits but it wasn't really to my taste.

It's odd that the people who always hate each episode regardless always seem to watch live and start moaning after a few minutes about how this is the worst episode ever.
I'm genuinely baffled why someone who is expecting to hate an episode bothers to watch live on Christmas Day and bothers to make 'I hate this' type comments all the way through. These people only seem to like the sound of their own voices, and rarely bother to contribute to any meaningful discussion afterwards with those who actually watched the whole thing before passing judgment. Is it just some sort of weird and utterly pointless competition to see who can be quickest to be the most negative?

well it was a lark and a laugh , but then we just had to have another mawkish , lengthy sentimental goodbye sequence , I wish they'd give it a rest .

Rewatching clips from Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead now and it all finally clicks... Hats off to Moffat for a time travel masterpiece.

8 out of 12 episodes were Earth-based stories last year.
7 out of 12 episodes (plus another one for last year's Last Christmas) were Earth-based stories during 2015.

Dreadful. .
River song yet again being tedious.
One liners constantly swapped between the major performers.
Can't we do long dialogues between cast members anymore ?
I look back at the Pertwee episodes. They were a romp, without the insidious mediocrity of some Freudian sex interest between the doctor and assistant and one liner "got back atcha'.

Tedious.

It was a good laugh. I've never been a fan of the Christmas episodes (with the exception of last year's, and the Christmas Invasion, they've generally been very underwhelming) but I enjoyed this one.

I don't tend to enjoy River Song either, but it's very clear - Alex Kingston and Peter Capaldi have lots of chemistry together. River Song and the 12th Doctor work so much better than River and the 11th.

Enjoyed it until the sentimental tripe at the end, and I was cringeing at what my mother must be thinking while we were watching it

But she's got her own back, forcing me to sit through this dancing bullsh' and we've got to endure some midwife bollo's too.

I really enjoyed that, first Christmas episode I truly enjoyed. Taking it at face value, ie removing some of the drama for Christmas entertainment, it was an hour well spent. I'm hoping that River's story is now told! Not that I'm a River hater, I actually like her, but where can you go from that?

I guessed the the FMs who hated it before I even clicked on. Predictable as ever!

I'm normally one to criticise the s*** out of River Song as I think she's just a genuinely terrible character with far too many cheesy one liners who Moffat seems intent on shoving down our throats as much as he possibly can, so I was fully expecting this to be awful.

HOWEVER, I actually really liked it and actually thought that River was quite "toned down" comparatively - until she cottoned on to the fact that Capaldi was the Doctor the entire time. Capaldi absolutely sold every scene though, even when both Matt Lucas and Greg Davies were doing their best to completely take me out of it.

Also really liked the final scene between the Doctor and River and am very, very glad that's how the River Song story is being wrapped up.

Do have to laugh at the fella who came in and called it s*** twice before the episode even hit the 10 minute mark. Like I'm all for opinions and that but damn, give the thing a chance before you write it off completely yeah?
