I feel it was only a matter of time before they were going to do this.

I do know that the publishing rights for The Beatles' back catalogue is in multiple ownership. Paul McCartney's publishing company owns the rights to the first four songs, the Beatles released including "Love Me Do"; Ringo Starr owns the rights to the songs he wrote including "Octopus' Garden" and George Harrison's estate owns the rights to the songs he wrote like "Something" and "While my guitar gently weeps".

Great news Indeed.

Will Taylor Swift get the her head out of her arse now as the last one standing?

I always thought Michael Jackson owned the right to Beatles Songs, or was that a myth?

Taylor's not quite as bad as Adele, at least 1989 is on Apple Music

Awesome, hopefully giving some the chance to discover the weird, darker, trippy side to The Beatles rather than the usual hymns and yeah yeah yeah's.

Are you sure? I know the rights revert back in the next couple of years but Sony/ATV still list The Beatles' catalogue as theirs

MJ controversially bought the Beatles publishing for $47.5 million in 1985. The merger with Sony 10 years later (in 1995) where he sold a 50% stake of the publishing) earned him a further $95 million (meaning the Beatles publishing was worth $195.0 million, a cool 400% increase in 10 years). Part of that deal gave Sony the option of buying him out at a later date.

Come 2014, MJ is dead, and his estate believing the earnings for songwriting publishing was heading southwards due to the decline of revenue from sales/increase in streaming, sold the remaining 50% to SonyBMG for an undisclosed amount.
