EastEnders Dubbing Janet
It has been clear for the last few episodes that EE has been dubbing Janet when she speaks. I think this is in really poor taste. Although some down syndrome children that age can have excellent communication skills, others are slower and I think it is clear that the actress who plays Janet does struggle with her speech. However, I see no reason why this means that Janet as a character cannot also suffer with her speech. I really think dubbing her in scenes is a bit of an insult really!

In the café a disembodied voice appeared while Janet was just pulling at her finger. It certainly seemed to come from nowhere and not from Janet.

I do have trouble understanding her but dubbing her? No. that's not on. Also I haven't seen tonight's but the last time she was on she seemed a bit bewildered and like she didn't want to join in. I hope she does enjoy herself while acting and doesn't just do it to be well behaved. I do think child actors should have fun.

I haven't picked up on this but will make sure I look out in the future, if this is the case then it's just rude and disrespectful.

I haven't noticed it. Is it all the time?
I can't remember when it started but for at least the last few years, EastEnders has often had a line or two dubbed in here or there. So it might not be something related to Janet specifically, of course if it's all the time then that's not the case. Bear in mind if it is all the time then it might be something that's done at her/her parent's wishes. |

Tonight's episode was pretty obvious. Every single speaking part was dubbed Quote:

I just watched the Janet scenes back and the OP is right, they are definitely dubbing her.

She has down's! What a horrible comment more like poor writing for the actor's ability!
someone having a medical condition or disability has no bearing on the posters comments. I could have downs but I would still be a terrible actor downs or not |

I don't think they dubbed her. Maybe there are some lines she can say a bit better.

The fact she has down syndrome impact on how she acts and performs, you can't expect her to have to same learning process or cognitive speed as someone who doesn't have downs and acts, so in a way I understand why people have interpreted that persons comments that way.
I think the op would be making the same comments if the actress/character didn't have downs |

but she is acting as a person with downs and so you would expect those things to happen

Yes but it not exactly the same, she a down's actress playing a character with downs specifically so both work in conjunction together, it not like a non disabled person playing a disabled character and being called rubbish the actress who plays Janet can't change how she acts and responds.
