Maybe they are dubbing her with her own voice? Maybe she is able to communicate better when the cameras aren't on her so they audio record her speaking parts off-camera and then dub over her scenes?

No. I have seen the 'Anti Janet' thread and this is not it at all. I think she does a fantastic job - The actress clearly has communication difficulties but this does not mean she is awful, and this could easily be part of the Janet character.”

How can she be fantastic when she can't speak properly, and she has to be dubbed over? And it can't be part of Janet's character as she's not meant to be a ventriloquist!

I'm not certain she was dubbed. I didn't understand some of what she said. Sometimes I find her difficult to understand and don't know what she's said.

If that's the case too make the actress who play's her feel more comfortable, then I see no problem with it, and respect the show for that decision. If it is however just a case of them dubbing over her deliberately and using someone else's voice that's wrong and not good, and if this was the case wouldn't the more reasonable solution be cast it to someone who yes had the same condition of Janet, but has better communication skills?
(Not intending to cause offence there on the last bit)

if they recast with someone who has better communication because the actress has speech problems so they would recast with someone with speech problems still.

Well okay they could recast someone who has no problems with communication like the guy in corrie, there are no communication problems with him. If they really required too.

I do not "have trouble with speech". I don't find other people difficult to understand including other actors with Downs Syndrome. I just can't understand Janet most of the time.

No. There were two lines given to a child actress. The fact it seemed badly "dubbed" made one think it could have been William but it definitely wasn't. It was clearly a girls voice, a voice that seemed to be studio produced. But they didn't show Janet actually delivering the lines. One she was looking down and her long hair was partly in the way with only one lip movement producing a whole sentence, the other when the camera was on Billy. They definitely did something. Almost certainly dubbed. Was it her voice or someone else's voice - difficult to say.

In what way is her "acting" a Downs syndrome child awful? She is being told what to do and she is doing it.

Agreed, theres no way I would have been able to be on a TV set at that age and take direction, I was far too shy for all that

Of course it is her own voice if they are dubbing her. Anyone who has heard Janet speak on the programme before can vouch for that.

If you read a bit further you would see I said I got confused and I watched that scene again.

maybe peoples issues are because she wasn't looking at the camera and you couldn't see her face properly doesn't mean she was dubbed just bad camera angles

If the dialogue isn't being understood then they have to make sure it is. Why is it horrible?

I heard they are getting Morgan Freeman in to do Janet's voice in the new year.

Why do you have to study her so closely?

Ok Janet has Downs, and the may dub her voice so all of us hear her lines.

So what, it doesn't detract from the scene..

People are looking for something to complain about.

It's a difficult situation. What can they do? Recast her?

This is her first attempt at a significant speaking part. They'd get lynched for dropping her in favour of a more confident speaker.

I'm sure Grace (Janet) isn't the only Actor/Actress who does ADR on the show. I'm sure I've noticed Carol and Shirley's lines re-done by Lindsay and Linda. Plus if the equipment hasn't picked up the conversations clearly enough Grace may find it easier to do ADR than keep re-shooting the scene (especially with time restrictions on children).

I've not noticed any dubbing for Janet but your right there's been an increased amount of dubbing in EE and more often than not its badly done with disembodied voices suddenly cutting in. I expect for Janet it's just convenient for filming especially in larger scenes.
