So Tonight I decided to make my Christmas stuffing. Due to a cut finger during the early prep, I put a plaster on my finger and used latex gloves to mix up the ingredients; obviously caked in all ingredients including sausage meat.
When I finished I threw these In the bin.
(I think you know what's coming)
Ok so my lovely dog (a westie) got in the bin and had the glove in his mouth, he ran off with it and I immediately went after him and told him to drop, he didn't (he always does) so I put my fingers in his mouth I couldn't find anything, then I reached further into his throat.
I tried again, nothing.
Panic stations!
My dad who was with me at the time said Google it, I said, no let's ring the vet.
After a two minute Google search. I decided to ring the vet, I couldn't take the risk.
It's out of hours now, 8pm, receptionist advised to bring him in to induce vomiting.
We were at vets within half an hour, they gave him an injection to induce vomiting, thankfully(after a twenty minute wait and much worrying whilst he was in a back room) the glove came up.
They then gave him an anti sickness drug to reverse the effects.
All in all, within an hour or so(and me nearly 200 quid lighter, gawd love him) we had our dog back home, all safe and well.
I wrote this, as at Christmas time pets can eat weird things, decorations, chocolate, dried fruit…(latex gloves lol) etc.
Please be vigilant, if I had not seen what he ate, the vet said it could have been really serious or even fatal.
Thankfully we saw and acted quick and that is what the vet said was the correct thing to do, don't take a risk and “see how they get on"
Vet told us once it is in the upper intestine (approx two hours for big dogs, less for smaller, but all dogs are different, so who knows) that it can become serious, even fatal. With edible objects which are poisonous, it is once it's in the bloodstream.
Anyway the point of this was just to say be careful with your pets, we could have lost ours tonight.
We love him to bits
Thanks for reading.
I've learnt some very valuable lessons tonight.
