Weather Watching - Enthusiasts Thread
December 2015 looks likely to become the UK's mildest ever recorded December and Christmas looks to be one of the mildest along with it. So at this notable time what better than to begin a thread about the weather for all enthusiasts out there, or anyone else, who wants to pass comment about the weather in general.
From those who want to talk detail and statistics on weather past and present, to those who simply want to pass a casual weather comment as they see fit, all are welcome to contribute. The weather is one of the most popular subjects that people always talk about, so it's long overdue that it has a proper thread to cover the whole subject. There will always be plenty to talk about, and now it's the early hours of Christmas Eve, we have the 5th named storm since the Met Office began naming them in November, with Storm Eva about to affect the nation on the very appropriate Christmas Eve. No doubt it will become known as the Christmas Eva storm if it has a serious affect, which looks highly probable this mild, wet and stormy Christmas coming up. |

If it causes much damage it'll be 'The Eva Destruction' with apologies to Barry Maguire.........
![]() I think the mildness is probably why it appears to be raining all the time Even though it's mild I've had my worst 'stuck indoors' period for ages because I look outside and its either raining, on the verge of raining, or the wind is howling.........all of which tends to keep me indoors I assume the hotter it is the more energy there is in the system and the more energy the more chance of rain and wind.......therefore 'mild winters' are not always good I'd prefer it cold and crisp........then I'd be out in the park getting some exercise |

Mild I like. What's annoying me now is the amount of rain. I'm not in a flood risk area but the golf courses around here are turning into swamps

It's raining today. It rained yesterday. It is going to rain tomorrow. My 'weather-watching' at the moment seems to be limited to the direction of the rain (do I need to shut the bedroom window), duration of breaks in the rain (can I feed the birds without getting soaked); and heaviness of the rain (do I need to mop the floor under the leak in the conservatory).

Eva looks likely to once again bring heavy and persistent rain to those areas which have already seen flooding twice this month. They might be looking at another 100mm, adding to already swollen rivers and totally saturated ground.
I can see parts of Cumbria becming a disaster area. No exaggeration. |

When I posted earlier on the thread it was on the verge of raining..........now it's raining
I've put the heating on and reconciled myself to a day slumping in front of the TV, nappng, occasionally stirring to see what's happening on t'net....... |

Indeed. I've been mountain biking at this time of year before now. Not keen at the moment!

Monday and Tuesday was drizzly rain, and it rained again this morning (but has currently stopped).
Yesterday was sunny with blue cloudless sky

![]() Interesting that tonight at 11pm on Christmas Eve it is just 4.2c under a clear and almost full moonlit sky in North Bucks. Perfect timing for the coldest late evening of the autumn/winter so far. I was actually expecting it to be far milder. Almost a perfect start to Christmas, but it isn't going to last. A soggy Christmas Day and back to balmy temperatures of 15c on Boxing Day. The wind from Storm Eva doesn't seem as bad up north as expected. |

I have an Oregon WM-918 weather station with Data logger which used to download 24/7/365 to the pc. Unfortunately the software to the data logger became obsolete once win7 came out and i've not been able to find any suitable software since.
Pretty annoying as i still have all the gear which cost close on £300 at the time. |

My highlight of the weather week.Seeing these strange clouds forming. It was raining heavily.quite stormy/windy.
They were like balls, forming from the bottom of the clouds.Imagine a load of clouds deciding to drop loads of water very quickly. They looked like upside down mushrooms.I wish i had taken a picture. They were like something from another world. And the moon was out as well (about 4pm) just to add to the surrealism. ![]() I love stuff like that.Seeing it for real instead of on the telly.I can understand why people chase tornadoes.
