I've just watched a video narrated by Tomasz Schafernaker on the BBC's website regarding this "sudden stratospheric warming" which was very interesting and informative indeed.

Early yesterday morning (29th Feb) the temperature fell to -2.1c here in Bucks which was colder than I was expecting. Then today the sudden mildness has hit again after the rain went through, reaching almost 13c. However I was genuinely very surprised to see the actual forecast an hour ago suggesting possible snowfall even down south during tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it however. I've got photographs in an album of widespread and a decent covering of snow that happened on 3rd March 1995, which was after a very mild winter season in 1994/95 in which February had not even gone below zero at any point in my area, which is the same place on left as I'm still at today.

The "spring" month of March 2016 could very possibly end up a colder month than the "winter" one of December 2015, aided by the extreme mild conditions three months ago.

Not in the east of England you cant. It's still 7.8c around these parts. What is your actual town out of interest?

Not only could March be colder than December but it could end up colder than January and February too. The first two weeks of March are so far looking that way. It would be truly extraordinary if the whole month ended up chillier than the previous three winter months.

I'm from County Londonderry, it is -0c there right now and snowing, there is 1cm of snow on the concrete already.

We haven't got a hopen of getting snow here, I would wait to next winter if I were you.

So you're watching your home area webcam but from East Anglia like your location says.

You can't dismiss a significant snowfall in the south and east of England just because it has become March.

Widespread sleet or snow in NW England tonight, heading into the Midlands, also in N. Ireland, and just snow in many parts of Scotland. The snow is lying in the higher parts of Buxton but not in the town centre yet (there's webcams) , 1 deg C there. Might not stick at all in the NW English lowlands.

Well it needs to get significantly colder for any precipitation to come down as snow here at the moment where the temperature remains at 3.4c. I don't anticipate any of the white stuff here despite what they have forecast in showery bands across the midlands and southern areas during Wednesday.

I'm in Mid Ulster, after a snow warning for over night and going by last nights weather the entire country of Northern Ireland was to be covered by snow, up this morning not a drop to be seen, its not even raining at the moment.

It could happen where the downdraughts of the heavier showers temporarily lower the surface temperature to near freezing. Otherwise it would need a long spell of moderate to heavy rain first, to gradually lower the surface temperature - currently 4C round here. Way too mild for snow.

Either way, wet snow at best.

No weather stories from the past 24 hours on a quite interesting day in the north of the country?

It was a nation of two halves in England on Friday. My area was perfect weather, dry, sunny and calm. Very pleasant indeed. Yet pictures from barely 100 miles northwards seem like a different country entirely with snowfall settling. Proving it's still the winter season despite the Met Office making out it's spring on 1st March.

As I write it's icy in Bucks however with an early morning temperature of -0.5c. Snow stubbornly absent again.

Storm Jake seemed to pass by on 2nd March without much notice being taken. Call that a storm? I didn't!

That North - South split being emphasised yet again.

I did notice a quite strong wind Thursday lunchtime, but Jake was touted to only clip the far South West, in terms of damaging gusts, if I recall correctly.

Wet Wet Wet!

One of the top twenty wettest days I've ever recorded at my location in North Bucks today. By lunchtime and in just the 12 hours since midnight I had 28mm in the electronic rain gauge and tonight I've hit 30mm for the day.

River has burst its banks nearby and flooding slightly, on just this one day of rainfall.

I couldn't believe it when I looked at the rainfall radar this morning and saw pretty much the whole of England enveloped in heavy rain.

Me too.

Actually Northern Ireland this morning, was one of the few dry places in the entire UK. Quite possibly County Londonderry woke up to some Sun.

We had Howitzer style gusts this morning. I thought the Wolf was huffing and puffing outside.

It was seriously rough, scary actually and it woke me up.

I live in the same county on the coast.
