Actually the Met Office forecast from Thursday next week onwards, does appear to vindicate such a proposition:-
Quote:
“UK Outlook for Thursday 5 May 2016 to Saturday 14 May 2016:
A north-south split is expected on Thursday and Friday, with brisk winds, showers or longer spells of rain in the north and drier, sunnier and much warmer conditions in the south. Through the weekend and next week, occasional spells of rain and drier, brighter interludes are expected for the west and southwest. Eastern and northeastern parts are likely to see plenty of dry and bright weather, but with a risk of thundery showers in southern parts at times. Overall, temperatures are expected to be near or a little above average, but the north may see temperatures a little below average at first. In the south temperatures may be well above average at times, giving a much warmer feel than of late.
