It's not going to get cold, just cooler. Maybe 24 instead of 34

Same here why does this weather always have to be reserved for England, so unfair.

I assume you've already forgotten many days in May and June when it was often clear blue skies and Sunshine over much of Scotland and Northern Ireland, whilst most of England, especially the East and South East, languished in quite dull weather.

Your right but MOST summers England gets the good weather while we are lauded with days of rain and drizzle.
Plus England always get really hot temps like 30c on a regular basis, we stick around 23c.

I recorded 36c on that date last year but as you say, it was a freak heat day and nothing else came close.

Coincidentally today, 19th July 2016 which is likely to see temperatures suddenly soar to the mid 30's Celsius (95f) is the 10th anniversary of a day back on 19th July 2006 when the nation also scorched. I recorded 36c on that day too. That was part of a decent heatwave and the nights were so warm I decided to pitch tent in the garden and sleep outside for 3 nights!

During Monday afternoon I recorded a high of 29.1c. Looks like my location could be favoured as one of the hotspots in the day to come. It will be very interesting to see just how high the hottest ends up and where it is.

I had been looking forward to the thunderstorms this evening but the chances seem to be less and less despite a yellow weather warning yesterday.

Not a lover of this heat, will be glad when all returns to normal tomorrow.

I think the most noticeable thing about the current hot spell will be the temperatures tonight. The BBC Weather site is predicting a low of 23 degrees in London tonight!

That's more like a typical Singapore night.

The fact is we are all going to get an unbearably oppresive night after a hot day throughout the UK, even if most of the rest of the uk does not turn out to be quite as warm as London, even under clear blue skies.

I would not be wishing for a long lasting heatwave with the temperatures getting progressively hotter all the time in the process.

Today is about the limit of a hot temperature where I live that I can cope with.

Only one or two days where it's "the hottest day of the year" when temperatures get to the type of values as today will do for many people.

I certainly don't wish to take the train all the way down to London just to get a taste of temperatures such as 35 degrees C. That is far too hot.

I'm more of a low to mid 20's degrees and sunny type of person rather than your typical heatwave lover.

Indeed, July 2006 was a belter. Funnily enough I also put the tent up in the garden on one or two nights, but was plagued with insects as soon as it started to get light.

Strangely, I haven't received a single insect bite so far this Summer - touchwood.

I wonder if we will get a 36 today........?

It's not so much the high temperatures, it's the humidity that makes it uncomfortable.

It feels like I am walking around with an oven on my head. Come out of the direct sun into the shade and the humidity gets you. Central London is boiling.

Hear hear. I managed to wangle this afternoon off work by pretending I would be writing a report which I've already written, but just not e mailed on (lol)

Sitting here in the garden with my tablet watching the bees weave in and out of a group of small mauve flowers, and getting a little Sun through the leaves of the tree I'm sitting under. Way too hot to actually sit in the Sun.

Sheer bliss - these are the days worth ploughing through a shed load of dull wet days for

Just 32 miles away to the North East, here in Chelmsford, it's not nearly so uncomfortable. Just nice.

Not just the heat and humidity, but also the noise of London bugs me. Always seems so quiet when I get back home.
