You are so right about the noise BB. I am not exactly in the sticks at home, but the noise level drops noticeably when I get back.

33.5 C at Brize Norton. Not all the reports from all the official stations will be in yet, though.

Ten year record high here (S Hants), 31.1 C at 4:09pm - currently 30.4C at 5:40pm. The wind has stayed in the NE to E all day, no sea breeze, which helps to explain my 10 year record.

27 here now, I think it peaked at 28.5 here in N.I, thankfully cooler tomorrow, anything above 21-22c is to hot for me.

I've recorded a high this afternoon of 34.5c here in North Bucks.

The current temperature remains high at 31.1c. These are shade temperatures of course, and taken at a height of 4ft above ground. I've been feeling quite comfortable most of the day in an air conditioned building, and when I left it I walked into the nearby Sainsbury's for some salad and fruit items and it was even fresher. But walking back out into the air it really was an astonishing hot blast.

I decided to wear a baseball cap for the first time yesterday and today to keep my face shaded a bit and my head from burning through the thin patch and it has made a huge difference. I haven't come in with a "lobster face" tonight from the sun and heat. Another thing I noticed today was that people seem to be keeping covered up more. Very few guys strutting about barechested. Skin cancer warnings are paying off maybe. Although in this weather there is nothing nicer than cycling shirtless and feeling the cool breeze waft over the body, something I used to do a lot in my early 20's and haven't done for years. I've had a couple of bad sunburns doing that and I never wore sun cream. I still don't, I hate the greasy feel of the stuff. I should know better as my mum has had malignant melanoma a decade ago. I don't set out to deliberately catch the sun on my skin anymore though.

Bit lower here at 29.2 - being closer to the coast.

Yes, watch the Sun. It's OK in small doses, but not lying in for prolonged periods.

Hope your Mum is now fully recovered.

Of course, there's only so many official stations. So it's quite possible "somewhere" in England has indeed seen 35 degrees today.

Yes she recovered from one on the upper thigh, It was nearly ten years to get the all clear though. Oddly the area was one that almost never got sun exposure. I knew she had a dangerous looking mole and did the end of a pencil test on her, and the mole was bigger than that. I said it needed urgent attention and she ignored me. So it got bigger and one day she scratched it and it bled profusely in front of her friends who advised her to seek immediate attention, which she eventually did. This was about a year after I had told her to get it looked at! I was quite mad at her as her attitude came close to costing her life if she'd waited much longer and it was so un-necessary as it was easy to see.

So far the highest "official" temperature they are stating is 33c but I will be amazed if this does not get superseded later on, especially as at the moment I appear to have a temperature 1c higher than the official one. As far as I am concerned Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire reached 34c today and I have no reason to doubt the integrity of my own reading.

Tonight's minimum value is going to be equally interesting. I'm off for a cold shower!

Only one or two days where it's "the hottest day of the year" when temperatures get to the type of values as today will do for many people.

I certainly don't wish to take the train all the way down to London just to get a taste of temperatures such as 35 degrees C. That is far too hot.

I'm more of a low to mid 20's degrees and sunny type of person rather than your typical heatwave lover.”

It was 29c here in Northern Ireland today and it actually felt alright. I was expecting it to feel more sweltering than it was, perhaps that was due to the breeze.

I recorded 29c here in the North West. It said 30c in my car earlier, I am sure somewhere seen that.

We don't have that many weather stations as Britain and a lot of them are concentrated at the coast so we don't get to see what the hottest temperatures are.

Was beautiful in Westminster today.

We had a fire alarm at work, which meant the opportunity for a lovely 30 min wander around St James Park in the sunshine, not a cloud in sight. The lake looked gorgeous, and I was happy since I found the cutest, fluffiest, tiniest ducklings I have seen in my life.

Yes, several places officially recorded temperatures of 30 or 31C, the highest I've noticed so far being Crosby (now corrected to 32.0). Being on the coast doesn't make any difference if the wind is blowing offshore all day, as it was today.

I see from the SYNOP updates that St. Helier reached 35.2, Jersey Airport 33.9 and Pershore 33.4.

Wow, 35.2! That's serious heat! Here in Yorkshire it very suddenly clouded over at about 7pm. The temperature dropped straightaway. Still 22 degrees though, at 11.20pm.

Still 27C at Shawbury in Shropshire. The advancing cloud is going to trap the heat in, preventing significant radiation.

Interesting differences are showing up between Manchester Airport (the old SYNOP location, now via METARs) and the very nearby Rostherne no. 2 official SYNOP site. At midnight BST - 2300 GMT - Rostherne is reporting 24.5 deg C and the airport 26 (rounded). Urban/airport heat island versus adjacent countryside only 5 miles away!

Here in S. Hants suburbia, the temperature has gone up in the last half hour and is now 25.8 deg C, 2.1 degrees higher than my near-record-breaking night on July 1st. last year when it was a mere 23.7 at the same time.

Still 25.2 at 1:30 am here S Hants!

7/8th cloud cover stratocumulus I think with the moon poking through beautifully. Feels like a warm summer's afternoon outside.
