Me too, although I'm worried I'm becoming a bit obsessive with looking forward to the cooler weather from October onwards. Pretty much every year I get disappointed with how warm September is.
I do not handle the heat well at all.
Lovely warm day here on the South east Kent coast, took the laptop and worked on the beach even had a swim in the sea (without laptop)- kept mouth closed for obvious reasons.
Now home going to have a early bbq with a friend and relax - opps know I should be working.
Dreading tomorrow work in london - the heat is swings and roundabouts for many great when you are at home nightmare if you have to work in a heat trapped city

Yes, I registered 29.8C here at home. Although apparently over 30C was recorded at Writtle which is literally about 2 miles from where I live.
Alex Deakin was just interviewed by Clive Myrie on BBC News, and he says that a level 3 heat warning has been issued for Eastern England. These are issued when daytime temperatures exceed 30C and night time, not below 15C - well tonight they will be substantially higher than 15 degrees over much of England.

Yep I commuted to and from London for 7 years. Absolute nightmare in a Summer hotspell. I elected to take a job back home, even though it meant much diminished promotion prospects. Couldn't stand it, althought the heat wasn't the determining factor for that.

I remember a most vicious and entirely unexpected thunderstorm, which developed round here during the late afternoon of 2nd August 1995 - about 2 hours of frequent, and at times continuous cloud to ground lightning. It wasn't forecast.
It was hot and I think the storms were accentuated here with the convergence of a light Easterly and a light Southerly.

I dont hold out much hope of a nice hot or even warm day tomorrow
the sun got out today around 2pm then went back in around 4pm, for those couple of hours it did get up to 20 but soon went down again

I am struggling to bear it at the moment and I don't normally mind the heat. Its the humidity that gets to me. I have spent days sweating and I long for a shower the minute I get home. I spend the evenings with legs akimbo in front of the lounge fan and sleeping is a nightmare.
I am praying for thunderstorms and cooler conditions. I am OK upto about 23 degrees, but any hotter and I struggle.

Just the Eastern half of England retaining the really hot weather now. Everywhere else, bit cooler - in fact really pleasant in many areas. Dry, sunny and pleasantly warm.
Compare and contrast at midday, 29C here in Chelmsford, 21C in Birmingham, for example.

The heat is horrible today, I can't stop dreaming about a nice freezing cold winter with plenty of frosts and Snow (well overdue too)
25c here currently, thats warmer then expected as the weak cold front hasnt made it this far east as expected. predicted 21-23 here and broken cloud.... apart from high cirus its blue (milky) skies and humid, very humid, i expect some terrific storms for some somewhere tonight.
I'm not a hot weather moaner usually, but it's really bloody hot where I am today! It's 28c in my home office at the moment, with a tower fan on, blinds down and the windows wide open. We live in a rural spot, on the top of the hill, and there's always a pleasant breeze, but not today. I feel sorry for my poor husband roasting in London. Commuting is hell in the heat.

Well an area of gentle rain is forming over England, with very little thundery activity in evidence. Once again, that South Westerly, rather than South Easterly component, proving the difference maker.
So much for "a lot of energy in the atmosphere".

Just had a major catch up of over a hundred posts after a couple of weeks since dipping in and see there has been plenty of hot air, mostly from MushyManRob. Lots worth a reply, but for now.....
Nowhere is the answer Blueblade! Very disappointing as I was anticipating a rather enjoyable thunderstorm and night of bangs and flashes as I write. All that is happening is that some rain has just begun falling as it crosses east across England. Not a bang or a flash among it all, which surprises me after such a significantly hot and humid day across the south.
I recorded a temperature of 31.2c during Wednesday here. Tuesday was 30.8c. These are impressive temperatures this late in August and a week out from September. Certainly the 34c in parts of the South East on Wednesday is very impressive indeed. I cannot even recall when a temperature as high as that this late in summer was last recorded in England. Not any time recently I'm sure of that.
A very dry month to this point, just 11mm here. It's quite a notable drop off in rainfall this summer after the drenching June produced 3 times the usual expected. June at 141mm, July at 36mm and now August on 11mm. Grass which was very green, lush and fast growing in early July has now become parched, almost scorched yellow in places and almost stopped growing. A quite amazing turnaround from one extreme to the other.

Early September up to the equinox is not truly autumn, and if such weather and temperatures occur then it can't really be called an indian summer.
According to various meteorological websites for a real indian summer to occur it has to happen after the autumn equinox and after the first heavy frost too.

spot on.... my first interest in weather was back in the early 70's and thunderstorms. i recorded all we had, and it became immediately obvious that we needed a draw from the southeast rather then the southwest. biscay just didnt cut it, but if we had a draw from the east of the Pyrenees (so south too) chances seem to increase tenfold.
