The daytime temperatures don't suddenly drop several degrees just because it's the start of a new month. The sun is still on this side of the equator so weather patterns will still be summer orientated until the sun slips to the other side of the equator.

more heat and humidity next week by the look of it as a deep low over biscay is expected to throw up some hot humid thundery air off southern france.... could be some thunderstorms..

beyond next week, it appears the azores high will return to influence our weather... so average - above average temps, mainly dry but rather cloudy at times especially in the west. could turn muggy too depending upon the exact orientaion of the high,.

It was a pretty good August and September is looking even better in this part of the world, Manchester.

Always knew it was down to the BBC getting the weather from the Met Office, like all government departments hopelessly inefficient. This new company have much better weather.

whatever do you mean?.... i thought the bbc are still getting their weather info from the met office who are still seen as the best source of info for the uk.

Warm again today, with temps already up to 23 degrees in places, but the strength of the wind is tempering the warmth, somewhat.

Phil Avery - potential for 30 degrees next week, as we drag in some really warm air from France/Spain.

really warm? or hot?

must be a goer then if they are talking about it this far off... im wanting it to happen because its rather rare and unusual to get such a draw of southerly air. would have baked 2 months ago and the potential for some proper thunderstorms cannot be ignored.... yet anyway!

Oh, it's definitely a goer, although as usual it will be short lived. The peak will be Tuesday. After that, low pressure takes up residence over the country.

looking messy later this week, great uncertainty as the what the biscay low will do. it could sit on us from weds - fri...

the anomaly charts do allow for this, but the general theme for the next two weeks is anticyclonic dominated, with a strong euro high and strong azores high, the uk being caught between the two (which might hold the low over us).

Apparently it was 45 degrees over parts of Spain a week or so back.

Ideally, the Azores and Continental high would join forces, but that's only a potential at this stage.

tbh i expect the azores high to become the dominant one, with the euro high declining. but every time so far the euro high looks like declining it goes and recovers and strengthens.

still we could beat the daily max temp on tuesday, its 'only' 28.3c

Grass minimum here this morning is around 4 degrees C... (air 8.2) AND it could yet drop below that. This is the lowest here (suburban S Hants) since May 26 when it was 1.1 (air 7.0). Mini heatwave or not in a few days time, this is a reminder that proper Autumn weather is nearly upon us!

Latest indications are that the hot and humid spell due to start tomorrow, will last slightly longer than originally anticipated. Maybe a three or four day event, especially in central and Eastern areas.

Fingers crossed

indeed, the biscay low (that doesnt actually exist yet) is giving forecasters a real headache . its track is unclear, yesterdays FAX had it sat right on top of central uk by wednesday.... this morning it has it tracking over northern france, leaving most of the uk in the hot humid air.

but the signs are that in a weeks time our eyes will be looking westward for our weather. both the ops and anoms suggest normal average early autumnal weather will sweep across the country.

so enjoy this weeks heat, its most likely to be the last of the year...

Hooray!

But yes, even the met office 10 day forecasts down here in SW are showing 16 degree predicted maximum day temperatures (9 or 10 days from now) for the first time since May.

Plus, regardless of the mini heatwave in the SE, evenings/nighttime temps are getting chilly now. The room temperature inside the house first thing in the mornings is dropping all the time.

The glorious Autumn is just about upon us.

Won't be long now until there's a widespread max of 12 degrees C.

It was November 20th. last year before we had our first Autumn maximum of 12 degrees C or lower! 'Twas deep midwinter on Jan 20th. before my night minimum dropped to -1 deg C, though there was an isolated ground frost on 25th. October. I hope we can do better this Autumn!

S Hants, somewhere near the English Riviera coast.

One third of September gone, and the mean CET is higher than July and August so far - largely a product of warm days, and some exceptionally warm nights, where temperatures have not sunk below 18 or 19 degrees in many places.

Last night was cooler, but certainly not cold.

indeed, but statistics arent always a good guide eg ... summer 2012 was one of the warmest, not because of high daytime maxima in all the rain, but consistently high overnight minima upped the cet.

I'll be interested to see if the upcoming warm to hot spell repeats the same high minima.
