anomaly charts becoming consistent on a large high pressure (displaced azores high) settling to our south over biscay/western france with i suspect a possible eastward exit afterwards.
a high in that position will draw up warm/humid air and in any sun - especially in the south - itll become very warm/hot. temps of 25c are possible in the south. but its looking like atlantic systems will run across the north/scotland.. so remaining unsettled/autumnal for them.”
I'm a bit further North than you and no rain forecast until the weekend (typical!) despite the winds being predominately in the west. Temperatures are around 15/16C so about normal for the time of year in Northern England.
Monthly Outlook (from the BBC):
Summary
Autumn atlantic influences
After a week of extremes, both in temperature and rainfall, we look like sailing a steady course in the month ahead.
Monday 19 September—Sunday 2 October
Steady as she goes...Atlantic winds fill our sails
Weather fronts will spill across from the west but weaken as they do so. Old fronts stalling in the east may provide a focus for showers. Morning mist and fog could be more of an issue this week, especially early on. Afternoon temperatures typically 18 Celsius with some chilly nights.
Sunny intervals and isolated showers on Tuesday after morning fog patches.
A spell of rain and stronger winds in Northern Ireland and western Scotland on Wednesday. Sunny intervals and a few showers elsewhere.
Drier and sunnier in the northwest on Thursday but heavy showers may affect the West Country and Midlands.
Building pressure on Friday will bring mostly dry weather with sunny spells and a promising start to the weekend, before a band of rain pushes across from the northwest.
Monday 26 September—Sunday 9 October
Changeable west to southwest winds.
A continuation of fronts progressing across the UK at times but weakening again. Northwestern areas more likely to have spells of wind and rain mixed with sunshine and showers. Southeastern parts may see little rain and sunshine at times but misty mornings. There is a smaller chance that the southeast could have a warm and dry spell of weather early in the week and more settled conditions could develop more widely.
Monday 3 October—Sunday 23 October
Mixed again but lower confidence.
Zonal flow looks most favoured...so everything is coming our way from the Atlantic. Given climatology, there is an increasing likelihood of deeper lows affecting the UK further into October, bringing more widespread rain and stronger winds.
