well if the anomaly charts prove accurate you will by the end of next week. they currently are firming up on the northern high relocating to greenland with low pressure over southern europe. thatll put the uk in a northeasterly but possibly sourced from the arctic... but decidedly chillier then the mid teens we are getting currently.

Quite cloudy here this morning, as you'd expect given the proximity to the East coast, but looking at the infrared pictures, I don't think the cloud has spread quite as far inland as was originally anticipated.

Chilly easterly wind again this afternoon. The temperature was 12/13C and it was partly sunny, and the wind wasn't too strong, but god was it chilly. It must be coming from Siberia or somewhere around there. It's the only drawback to the current weather pattern at the moment. It's lovely at the moment but I hate chilly winds

Can't have it all ways I guess...

13.8 max. here S Hants today, equal lowest max. since May 2nd (12.2). Felt chilly in the nor'easter compared to yesterday's 17, though we've had sunny periods since mid afternoon and less windy, so it was only marginally coat-wearing weather and definitely not coat-fastening weather. Home heating is on now though, on low setting.

It makes a world of difference when the wind dies down. It's only got up to about 10mph today but when it blows it's feels really chilly. It's only about 9/10C now and I was outside just an hour ago, in the same clothes as earlier in the day, but it actually felt warmer tonight out of the wind.. Perhaps I was just in a windy spot this afternoon which made it feel so cold.

I've also had to put the heating on for a little while today as it got down to 16C again, I've also been noticing some condensation on the windows on some mornings so its definitely starting to get colder.

Cool easterly winds here on the west coast of the inner Hebrides but what a stunningly beautiful day. Wall to wall blue skies . Heaven !

anomaly chart now some op runs are now firming up on the block becoming established over greenland by the end of next week, which will drop temps quite noticeably and lead to a widespread frost risk .

Blanket grey skies and drizzly rain sums up today. Temperature is currently 12 degrees and it feels cool and fresh outside, but quite humid, about 90% at the moment. Winds are still in the east, but there is hardly any wind.

I remember similar conditions a few weeks ago in Late August when I was in Whitby. It was a similar pattern - better in the West than the East, and the conditions were thick cloud, fog, constant drizzly rain, temperature about 14C, and humidity was at 100%. Felt like being in a Steam Bath.. I was feeling warm and sweaty probably due to the high humidity and then going into warm shops which didn't help... The winds were probably in the East that day as well...

So the easterly wind doesn't always bring dry sunny weather...

In fact from the observations from September the winds were in the South or the West most of the time, when they were in the South it was warm of course, but when it was in the West we got some pleasant days with sunny intervals and temperatures in the mid-teens - so not too hot not too cold.

So westerly winds can indeed bring nice weather particularly in September as that is usually a dry month.

clouded over here too, breeze has dropped though so with it being dry , its great weather for working outdoors.

The nights are getting noticeably chillier now, even when there is little wind.

Hi's of 11/12 degrees forecast for next few days. Monday looks rather cool though..

At the moment I'm wearing either a light coat/jacket or a sweatshirt when I'm outside. Not giving in to wearing a winter coat just yet! . Hopefully I can last without one till at least the start of November...

Northern blocking is still alive and well despite it being thought of by some as a thing of the past.

must say that this scenario isnt looking as likely now.... we could get a temporary low making things unsettled but i reckon the northern block will re-assert itself. it is normal to get temporary blips in such patterns.

Lovely bright crisp morning. Shower development towards the East Coast. Some of them might drift inland later.

Another fine day here with some sunny spells. Feeling pleasant in the sunshine. It did cloud over momentarily and I noticed a few drops of rain on the windows, but now it's cleared up again. The current weather we're getting is more typical of September just a bit cooler. We had a bit of a blip on Friday as that was the only rainy day we've had this week.

Really nippy outside this morning. Autumn is definitely beginning to bite.

On the plus side, clear sky, calm and crisp. Looks on the face ot it, like another superb day.

6C here this morning! Its currently sunny and a bit foggy out there at the moment. Can tell its chilly just by looking out the window.. Trees are starting to look a bit more bare also.. That's a temperature we'd expect in December not October :O

What's going on with this easterly light wind and no rain? I've had 1mm so far in what is usually the second wettest month.

Yes I'm wondering that too.. Where's the mild and wet weather we usually get at this time of year up until Christmas...?

It's only about 10/11C here at the moment and only 12C at London. That's more like November/December temperatures nowadays...

It's not been a bad day in London today but it seems cold now........apparently it's 10C or 50F

I've got both bars on my electric fire and almost put the central heating on.........but as I'll be going to bed in an hour or so there doesn't seem much point

First night for the hot water bottle though.......

Rained more here as it's got dark (central lowlands) than it did all of last week. Ground a bit damp

Central heating is on part time here now, didn't come on till later in the afternoon. Temperatures very disappointing though - even if it is October - temperatures never even reached double figures here today according to the met

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/w...tion/gcwdjeczy

That's colder than both November and December last year however wet it was..

What's the point of having fine dry weather if its too cold to enjoy it...?

Its bonkers isn't it? It rained a bit friday/saturday a week ago and that the first for months and its been bone dry since. Plants are wilting here. In October?! Its damn chilly but beautiful blue skies hardly a cloud in the sky so can't complain I guess but it sure is odd, I'm half expecting a drought warning any day.

High pressure means sunny hot weather in the summer and cold sunny weather in the winter. If you want mild weather you want atlantic weather its very cool in summer and very mild in winter. And brings a lot of rain.

a steeleye span fan?....
------------------------

octobers arent always mild, wet and windy. we have had many drier more settled months then you seem to think. this is pretty normal.

meanwhile everythings going pear shaped as the northern block gives a bit of ground and the southern low drifts northwards to bring an unsettled weekend.

the anomaly charts are all over the place so until they become consistent are of no use....the operational runs too are in no agreement beyond the weekend.

More typical October weather today as its been a bit milder and we've had quite a lot of heavy drizzle. Very overcast. Winds still in the east though..
