They were saying high pressure, settled and bright in the south after Monday on the BBC nightly forecast for the week ahead, last Thursday morning. They got yesterday's rain right too, not bad at all. I have to admit that I used to 'model watch' but these days I tend to let the experts do it for me, those nightly 'week ahead' forecasts are really very good on the whole so I record them all.
so if you want to get an idea of what could lie ahead, model watching (esp the anoms ) is the best way.

trouble is with the experts.... and id recommend listening to the bbc for local accuracy ... is that they dont often speculate beyond 3 days. ok theres the weekly but i dont catch that.
so if you want to get an idea of what could lie ahead, model watching (esp the anoms ) is the best way. Sometimes, they venture out beyond a week, always tentatively in such cases.

For the nightly 'week ahead' forecast on the beeb, you can record it as a series on Sky etc. and watch in the morning!

The time changes every night, so you have to set to record the series to catch them all. It's next on at 12:45 am Wednesday morning.
i stopped watching the weekly forecast when it was stopped after lunchtime countryfile. models give us weekly+ predictions several times a day at our convenience now anyway. |

On the plus side, it is on every night. |

It's just before 10pm on the BBC news channel - to be sure to catch it, tune in by 9:54 as it's sometimes a bit early. I've also got Virgin Media, and unfortunately there isn't a separate slot for the weather on the EPG. It just runs in with the preceding programme.
On the plus side, it is on every night. |

Oh I forgot that one! Did watch it for a while but it was too fiddly trying to record it or remember to watch it every day as you have to set to record the whole BBC News channel hour or create a manual daily recording and hope they don't drop or shorten it due to breaking news stories. So I record the 'after midnight' version which is it's own separate 5 minute programme and is also on every night.

WINTERS COMING! .............. previous hints at a colder synoptic pattern now look pretty likely for the end of next week, in time for bonfire night, as the greenland high/scandinavian low pattern looks like becoming reality. so a noticeable cool down after what is looking to be a mild/very warm spell for the next 7 days. it could be VERY WARM sun - tues in any sun most likely in southeastern areas.
of course the detail of the cool down cannot be given atm, and the uk might still miss the worst of the cold plunge, or we could take a direct hit. the anomaly charts for this time period are being consistent so id suggest are very likely to become reality. |

Unfortunately, neither does that appear separately on the VIrgin Media EPG. I've just looked and it's got "Hardtalk" running from 12:30 to 1am.
mushy's northerly cold spell next week was hinted at in yesterday morning's 'week ahead forecast' and they firmed up on it this morning, with the main uncertainties being on timing and how far south it gets. Some snow in the far north was mentioned (for next week). |

It's been a typical October day today.
Mild, Gloomy, Overcast, Breezy and Rainy. Got up at 7:45am. It was dark, completely blanket, grey and raining. Felt like closing the curtains and going back to bed. Got to 8:30am. Still Dark... In fact it wasn't until mid-morning that it actually got light, and even now it's still pretty gloomy, and miserable. The rest of the day it has been Dry, Thick Cloud, with a moderate South-Westerly Breeze, and 12 degrees. Nights are staying mild with temperatures not dropping below double figures tonight. The next few days are set to be the same, with Thick Cloud, Mild Nights, some Rain at times and temperatures remaining around 12 degrees. It does make you feel pretty miserable though, especially getting up when it's still dark, completely Overcast, and pouring down. It's getting to that time of year when some days it never gets properly light all day. Makes you feel tired, miserable and want to stay in bed all day. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2652819 |

i thought you liked october?...
not judging by that moan at a 'typical october day' you dont! ![]() ![]() As I said, under normal circumstances I usually prefer the cloudy, damp, mild conditions (typical of a mild Autumn/December day) than cold, crisp sunny ones (yesterday was more typical of an early Spring day). Anyway, I guess I just have a change of heart sometimes... ![]() I'll try and enjoy the overcast mild weather we're having for the rest of this week before it gets colder next week as we enter November... |

Well the very quiet, unremarkable spell of weather continues unabated, as it were, albeit with a change of wind direction rendering the temperatures a bit higher.
Very usable days nonetheless, and I could get used to dryness at this time of year, in a hurry. It's very welcome. |

Yes I like this weather too, not too warm but not too cold either.
It's been 13 degrees and cloudy here this afternoon, with no rain. I was out working in the allotment today, with my College group. I checked the weather over lunch time, and no rain is forecast for today (well I think there is some overnight but not until about nearly midnight anyway). All the girls were wearing thick winter coats, and my tutor (who was also wearing a coat) told us all to put waterproofs and our "gear" on lol. So we went into the changing room and I said "I don't think you'll need waterproofs on, the weather says it's gonna be dry this afternoon and 13 degrees". One of the boys then said "Right i'm not putting one on then" and one of the girls replied back "Oh, don't tell me that I've when I've got a coat on" lol. Anyway, so me and 2 of the other boys went out in our hoodies/sweatshirt/jumpers, and that was enough. Everyone else (including the staff) had either coats on, waterproof jackets and/or waterproof trousers on top of thier hoodie/sweatshirt or jumper. Every week she tells us to put waterproofs on but I never listen. She's worse than my mum... ![]() Only if it's actually RAINING or cold will I put one on. On the way home practically everyone was wearing a coat, especially mothers with thier kids had big thick coats on, and some had winter hats too. It does annoy me a bit when so many people dress up for Winter when it's Mild out, esspecially when they expect other people to wrap up too. I live up in the Pennines, so I know what cold is. It is often that temperature during Summer here as well. |

Temperature still 12/13C here, and not set to drop below 12 degrees here all night.
It had stayed dry till about 6:30 this evening, that's when I set off and its been that patchy fine drizzly stuff on and off all evening. Luckily I had my hoodie on (I nearly always wear one!) so I could put my hood up and keep my head dry. The weather at the moment seems pretty similar to that of December 2015, with South Westerly winds, mild temperatures day and night and with thick cloud keeping the temperature up. The only difference is it's been a LOT dryer (yes, we were one of the areas that got flooded). So the weather we're getting up here is probably similar to down South December 2015. I love this mild weather, its mild but not too warm or too cold. I hope we get another November and December 2015 but this time with far less rain in those areas that got it last time (or at least more equally dished out across the country.) |

A misty start this morning, but it's clearing now. Temperatures still cool/mild - 12 degrees again at the moment.
Here was yesterday's forecast: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B56...ew?usp=sharing Can you get weather more boring than that?? That said, I do like the boring static weather we're getting at the moment. It isn't t-shirt weather but not winter coat weather either.. I can wear the same thing all day indoors and outdoors without getting too hot or too cold. Another fairly boring weather day today, and tommorow as well.. Not much change in temperature, thick cloud all day with a possibility of light rain/drizzle at times. At one point the forecast for Saturday was thick fog all day! It's changed a bit now but thier still forecasting mist/fog till midday: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B56...ew?usp=sharing |

Yep, same old, same old again today. The usual mixture of dryness, light winds and broken cloud. Very pleasant actually.

looking now like that cold wintry blast could arrive on wednesday... its been threatening for a while .
anomaly charts suggest the mean upper flow from days 6 - 14 will be from the northwest, so a rather cold, below average pattern likely with some northerlies likely. |

12 degrees, blanket grey skies, with poor visibility (hill fog) all day here today.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B56...ew?usp=sharing I don't know if it's just me, but more and more we seem to be getting these days where it's completely overcast, temp around 12 degrees all day (and night), and often raining as well. Doesn't matter what the time of year is - it can be December, July, or October - and the conditions are exactly the same... Very high pressure though, 1034 hPa currently.... |

As far as today, well - not a lot to be said different from other days. Bit more overcast, bit of drizzle in the light breeze, but nothing else. Temperature currently 13.7 degrees here. |
