I've just had a look at the weather for lots of different locations around the UK and where I live we are forecast to get the coldest weather, particularly at night, where temperatures could plummet as low as 0C. We could well get a frost tonight!

Even right in the far north of Scotland the nights are going to be warmer than ours!

I've checked different weather apps and they all say the same. I've not found another place in the UK that is going to get colder weather than us this week and the next.

Last November we got non-stop rain and gloom, and this November it seems we are in for a very cold snap.

Erm... yes he is, at least for my location overnight and even daytime temperatures are very low for the time of year this week and into the next. No overnight temperature higher than 5C for me. Pitiful..

'no overnight temp higher then 5c' isnt by any stretch of the imagination a 'big freeze'.. when daytime maxs for several consecutive days dont top 0c is when you can refer to a cold spell as a 'big freeze'..

we are going to get a normal early november cold spell, we are not going to get a 'big freeze'. he is wrong and highly misleading.

of course the 'big freeze' was the headline, the actual report will be more accurate but the actual report bares no resemblance to the headline 'big freeze'.

Well it certainly wasn't like this last November or the one before so its come as a bit of a shock especially as we've had a lot of mild weather recently.

Ive had frost this morning too. Last year the first frost wasn't till halfway through November and then the next one not till January.

It's November and it's turned a bit chilly. There's no 'big freeze'. In fact I'd describe it as a perfect autumn day. Wall-to-wall sunshine, blue skies and a crispness in the air. Beautiful. Get out and enjoy it.

ive seen 59 novembers, 43 of them outdoors... this is typical november weather,

the average november temps range from 12c (high) to 3 c. (average low) .

There's nothing seasonally odd about this week's weather! Here in the balmy south I had my first ground frost of the autumn last night with a minimum of -0.8; and an air minimum of 3.1. These are the lowest here since the first week in May but in both cases, it was lower on 25th. October last year. And that's in the soft south not far from the sea!

It is so warm in London right now.........I'm sat here in a T shirt no problem and putting some washing out just now see one of my neighbours sitting in a deckchair with no shirt on..........

I've forgotten the temperature, but he said that when the humidity was low, no wind and the sun was out, it was lovely.

some areas could see SNOW in showers sun/mon, the fax charts predict the 528 dam line across most of eastern uk sun/mon. any precipitation (showers) will be wintry.

by the end of next week though we should be in an unsettled northwesterly regime. the anomaly charts suggest a strong azores high by then, with an airflow coming in across the uk over its northern flank. depending upon the exact center of the high will determine how much milder spells we get..... more if its closer, less if its further away. but the northwesterly upper flow will keep things unsettled, with more spells of cooler pm air then mild tm.

It doesn't look especially mild for the forseeable - merely unsettled with temperatures near or a little below normal.

We can probably expect some snow over high ground in the North.

Last March Antarctica reached a balmy record-breaking 17 degrees C. It hasn't even reached that temp in all of October here.. 16C was the maximum.

several runs though have predicted a milder 'warm sector' spell, short lived but its there, later next week once we pick up the unsettled northwesterly flow.

.....I miss those tm days......

Yes, we want another December 2015 but with perhaps a little less rain in the north this time!

That said, looking at the weather charts for my area, temperatures (particularly the overnight lo's) are below average at the moment but could well creep up towards average or even above average by the end of the month.

Had a proper ground frost here last night suburban S. Hants i.e. ice for several hours on cars left outside, I checked at midnight. Grass minimum was below -1 deg C and stayed there for 6 hours or so but we just escaped our first air frost as it clouded over late in the night and the +1 air minimum was hit at 3:45 am.

Most non-urban places in the UK had much lower grass and air temperatures than here (e.g. even Thorney Island on the coast got down to -6 on the grass and Bournemouth airport had -2 C air frost).

You're right, February 1980 was mild but of course as expected rain was mostly above average as well.
