I thought it was hilarious - loved the Sherlock sketches, Celebrity Slammer and the middle class Jeremy Kyle this was a great laugh for a Friday night.

Loved it, Laughed out loud at the phone vote choices on Celebrity Slammer, I'd vote to give The Chuckle Brothers a life sentence .

I love the idea of a different guest each week, but David Walliams just isn't versatile enough to make it work. The writing isn't sharp enough, although I guess part of the blame should go on Jacob Whitehall's limits as an actor. The first Sherlock sketch was excruciating enough but then we were 'treated' to a second. Maybe a series wasn't the way to go; Two specials a year at most so the writers had more choice when trying to write 'funny.'

Ever heard of autocorrect? How about you have a go at the thread title as well.

Autocorrect is an invention of the devil. I didn't actually notice the thread title until someone pointed it out. You must have a pretty weird autocorrect, then. There is also an edit function, of course.

Of course. There is a time limit on it though.

The actress playing his mum in the Jeremy Kyle style sketch IS Jack Whitehalls actual mum

Taking the mick out of different classes (both above and below our own) has always been a part of our culture. Are you telling me you've never made a joke about some dodgy estate near you? As long as it's done with sensitivity then it's fine.

Wonder if you would be posting the same thing if it were middle classes and up being mocked.

I thought it was ok, not great. Laughed a couple of times, more Big School would definitely have been preferable.

To those claiming that Walliams was carried by Matt Lucas, I have just one word : Pompidou. Now THAT was unfunny, truly dreadful. Maybe when they worked together, the whole was just better than the sum of the parts - not uncommon by any means.

I've heard that Big School is returning...without Walliams mind. Maybe this (series) was a compromise to ease him out of Big School?

On the whole, I had high hopes for this series. Started well, soon disappointed after the first couple of sketches.

I found most recent comedy hard to laugh, the funniest things recently have been Ed Balls dancing and Michael McIntyre.

So quite discerning.

Last night was very funny, may not appeal to everyone, but on DS there are a certain few posters who like to get in quick with negative views, often only concentrating 10% on the show whilst posting, when it's on, but if they committed 100% to the show, they would enjoy it more.

A few will not allow anything to develop, They post the infamous " I gave it five minutes " which is overused and brings up a picture of limited attention span. Example, Only fools and horses could take 20/25 minutes for the belly laugh to develop. Some here would be walking the dog in five minutes.

Here some were writing this show off in five minutes, but the sketches later were very funny.

That's the thing with a sketch show you may not like everything but in two minutes something different and you may enjoy that.

Seems it's considered " cool" here to post strong negative views quickly, maybe for provocative response or attention seeking. Give a show a chance with full attention.

Last week some wrote off Michael McIntyre in the first five minutes but st the end many praised the fantastic singer in the unexpected star and it got six million viewers.

It was hit and miss like most sketches are, Middle Class Jeremy Kyle, Celebrity Slammer and the opera football chant were good but Sherlock was pretty bad.

I wonder if having a guest star every week is the issue, Walliams was fine but Jack Whitehall wasn't great, I imagine it'll be better with Harry Enfield

Fine if it's funny. Just saying "I'm better than you" in a variety of different ways is not funny enough material to justify basing a sketch around the idea of mocking the speech patterns of the educationally deprived.

Mocking society's more prilveged is less dodgy ground than those with power and money mocking those at the bottom of the ladder, for obvious reasons.

must admit jack whitehall was pretty good , but the writing was terrible , like the Sherlock sketch - I was waiting for a twist but there wasn't one .

Hmm.... Well I watched it all but I won't be back next week. It was pretty poor, I kept waiting for something funny to happen and there was an odd moment that raised a smile but the funniest bits were the chuckle brothers and the controller of the BBC sketch. It was just bad scripts I think as the performances were fine.

I liked it. Some sketches worked (Middle Class Jeremy Kyle, Celebrity Slammer), some didn't. It's usually like that with sketch shows. I like the idea of having a different comedy guest each week.

I was not on my lappy so did watch as I have learnt that they do not mix for me. I end up having to watch the whole show again for what I missed while typing.

I normally find Jack Whitehall funny but never laughed at all.

Will this comedy be classic in 30 years time like OFAH, Black Adder etc are.... I doubt it.

Utter arse gravy. Incredibly it was even worse than I was expecting. He needs to retire. I resent any licence fee ending up in his sweaty palm. Whitehall was garbage too.

I understand the concept of showcasing one guest, but for me this would be far better as Walliams and Friends rather than just friend. Having sketches from all of the guests on each would make it flow better and more watchable imo. I liked the prison sketch, but some of the other sketches seemed a bit grubby to me, in a way that somehow they wouldn't have done on Little Britain. Not sure that makes sense really, maybe its just me.
