It's obviously a mickey take of Die Hard which is pretty easy to see.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't Not Going Out meant to be a comedy? I don't understand why they make this sort of episode, so dark. Especially in the wake of the events in Paris. This sort of material belongs in a drama, not in a comedy.

I've watched NGO since the beginning and I really enjoyed the first 3/4 series but now it just isn't funny at all. Bobby Ball shouldn't be in it and the show has never had the same chemistry since Tim Vine left.

As I say, such a shame as I used to love NGO and was looking forward to its return tonight.

Used to be a big fan of Not Going Out.

It went off the rails a bit when Tim Vine left, i stuck with it and thought it reached a natural conclusion when Lee and Lucy got married.

But they've carried on and tonight's episode was poor in my opinion.

Just my two penneth.

Although I normally love NGO I didn't get my hopes up too high for tonight's episode, simply because when the man gets the girl he always wanted in sitcoms a lot of the comedy just disappears (think Frasier after Niles and Daphne got together). So this rather dull episode of NGO wasn't the disappointment it might've been for me, though even I'm surprised they didn't manage a few more laughs. And while I don't think all shows involving gunmen should be cancelled after terrorism attacks, I have to admit to feeling a bit uneasy at this particular hostage/gunman situation and couldn't help thinking of Paris.

I agree with another poster who said the NGO Christmas special set in an old house was the best one. I must have a look and see if it's going to be shown again this year, would love to see it again. The repeats are usually on Gold or Dave.

I found this episode too violent. It is meant to be a comedy. What is funny about a guy in a mask with a gun, threatening to kill and smashing security guards unconscious. I felt uneasy watching it.

I enjoyed the episode as it was, but thought it was a bit odd to put it on on Christmas Eve, with the violence and lack of humour compared to normal Not Going Out episodes.

How many have there been in the UK?

Do you want to stop any plot involving a gun just because people get shot in the US every day. That would put most cinemas out of business.

I am critical of the plot, the robber smashed the phones in the security office but there would be phones all over the store, alarm buttons by every till and if all else fails there would be fire alarms that could be set off.

People are being way too emotional about this, which makes me wonder why they didn't switch off ten minutes in

Therefore I can't really take those (tainted) opinions seriously. And especially the ones who actually believe that this was shot (don't hurt me!) after the Paris events (honestly??).

It was perhaps not as good as the final episode of the last (ever?) series, but it was a fine episode on itself. The only thing which bothered me was that you now had two wives nagging their husbands (understandable given Lucy's situation, but still).

I have to admit I felt the same way. Given this is a sitcom could they not have at least made the robber a little less threatening, maybe a bit more slapstick and incompetent? Having said all that I still found the dialogue quite funny and well delivered.

I thought it was alright, bit darker gave it a different flavour, clearly comic farce and went out well after the watershed.

Glad someone got it

Especially the scenes with the emergency vehicles in the snow.

I liked it, hopefully there will be another special or two next year.

Ignoring the obvious and predictable PC Brigade comments, this was an absolutely fantastic episode from start to finish! Magnificent! World class in every sense of the phrase. A true Christmas special, funny all the way.. and I'm not even a fan of Not Going Out.

That was how I felt too, I used to love NGO but last night's episode never really worked for me and the 'married one episode/series, baby the next' thing just seems so cliched.

I'm a fan and thought it was ok,darkest episode yet though, only really funny line was when Daisy asked what time Midnight Mass started or something like that

Don't the bad guys in 'action' films keep doing that also?

It was OK - jury is out on whether they were better to have done it at all or not or left things on a high. There were a few laughs but nothing classic. I have to be honest though, what posters are saying here about whether it should have been done in the light of recent terrorist attacks never entered my head - I just saw it as cartoon slapstick myself.

Didn't think much of it, just too far away from the usual show. They've done excellent Christmas shows in the past but this one just didn't look right with the format.

Not really, not if you haven't seen Die Hard.

I can see why they shoved this on at 22:45, very poor effort.

Loved it! But then I'm easily pleased it was different though, do I can see why others might not like it. Worth trying something different.
