Christmas Dinner
NellyD
25-12-2015
This year I have treated myself to an M&S Christmas. I have bought everything pre-prepared. So I just bung the lot in either the oven or the microwave and I don't expect any complaints.

When it's done everything goes in the dishwasher.

I think I deserve it

Well I've dcheated with with veg and the potatoes, I'm not doing any peeling this year and I've bought pre made Yorkshire puddings. However I will be making the lamb leg and gammon.

I hope you enjoy your dinner. M and S food is really good quality so it should be tasty.

Tesco pigs in blankets which I got reduced 3 weeks ago and froze. Asda turkey gravy and Aunt Bessie's roast spuds, parsnips, Yorkshire puds and stuffing balls.

Just turkey crown and sprouts are fresh.

Houston: The turkey is in! Repeat: The turkey is in!

All downhill from here really.

I'm making everything fresh pretty much (well, except the stuffing which came in apacket )

We're having this: http://vegusto.co.uk/roasts-steaks/v...t-special.html

With roast potatoes, mashed swede, parsnips roasted in agave nectar, roasted sprouts, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and peas! (Although I am tempted to make some mashed potato also... hmmm)

Wow, do you have giant sized plates? Sounds amazing

It's only on this day that we learn that plates need to be at least twice their normal size to accommodate everything. And what do we do with the 2.5 tons of food left over that we didn't manage to get on the plates?

Nah, just small portions, haha. And there needs to be enough left for bubble and squeak and lunch tomorrow, haha.

I cooked the turkey, made my own bread sauce, own gravy and forcemeat stuffing balls. The veg ... Roast potatoes, carrot batons in butter and orange glaze, peas (for son) sprouts and roast parsnips were all fresh. I made a large pan of red cabbage cooked with apples which was delicious.

I bought a luxury Xmas pud from Aldi and it was very good indeed and we had brandy cream with it.

I am trying to reduce the time I spend in the kitchen this year so I have bought Xmas cake, mince pies and what looks like lovely trifle. I also bought some ready made sausage rolls which in our house is unheard of!!!

I am enjoying more time sitting around though!!

Christmas Dinner 2015 was......... (drumroll)

A SUCCESS! (Even if I do say so myself - and only one burnt thumb! (an improvement on the usual Christmas Dinner related injuries) )

Now after half a bottle of wine and an over full belly, how do a make it to the start of Dr Who leave alone later programmes

Happy Easter everyone!

And now everyone is groaning and wishing they were dead by over-stuffing themselves?

Sounds like a lovely meal and way too much hard work - Well done!

....also, this year was an environmentally friendly affair as I managed to get the portion sizes right and only had 2 roast potatoes and 4 strips of carrots left over.

However, the kitchen now looks like a small nuclear device has gone off in it and my brother is currently trying you clean up. (It's the law! I cook, he cleans/washes up)

We had a lovely Christmas dinner. We had a turkey crown from Morrison's, which was delicious and thereby redeeming themselves after the awful 'signature' lobster!! We had the usual trimmings, roast potatoes, bread sauce, Brussel sprouts, stuffing, cranberry sauce and apple sauce and gravy. I used Schwartz' packet bread sauce as I was short on time but it was very tasty and only took minutes to make!!
Thoroughly enjoyed by my mum and I and we had icecream for dessert [mum had her favourite vanilla icecream and I had a magnum mini; 'bailey's' flavour...yummy!!

leftovers today, yummy!!

Christmas day I had a small stuffed turkey joint, from Iceland, pigs in blankets and stuffing from Asda. Fresh runner beans, carrots and some frozen sprouts from Asda. Finished off with a couple of warm mince pies with extra thick double cream. It was all lovely.
Today, Boxing day, I had the remainder of the turkey, some roast pork which was a left over from earlier in the week, stuffing, mashed potatoes and baked beans. Enjoyed this just as much as Christmas dinner and nothing has gone to waste.
I've been well a truly stuffed these last couple of days!

As per usual mums crimble dinner was a roaring success.

Just a turkey will streaky bacon on top and stuffed.

With just roast spuds and parsnips, peas, sweetcorn, sprouts and carrots.

Nothing 'fancy'

But she always does it bloody brilliantly

Pud, has always been made by my granny, from a recipe, the source of which has been lost in the annuls of time, and is on a scruffy bit of notepaper.

She makes it months before, and now she is getting a bit creaky (90 earlier this month) mum or dad have to go round on 'The Day' to help her stir it.

A few years back when the OH and myself were going off to Russia after crimble, we came down on the day, and granny had bought enough ingredients for two, and we took one back at crimble to take to the in laws.

The MIL loved it, snarfed down rather a large helping and saved some to take to her friends at the new years gathering at the local tree.

They all loved it too.

So it is known as " The Granny Beryl Internationally Renowned Crimble Pud"

You will not taste a finer pud ever. End of.

Ours was home delivered, and the only thing I had to do was stick everything in the oven or on the hob. Easy peasy.

Tesco finest three bird roast (duck, turkey, goose) with a pork, blossom honey, bramley apple and sage stuffing. Served with pigs in blankets, hog roast & apple bites, new potatoes, petit pois, baby carrots & gravy. Pud was salted caramel bombe with custard.

Everyone enjoyed it (apart from the bird hater in the family ).

We had a turkey from our local butchers, mash, roasties, sprouts, carrots, parsnips (all 39p from Tesco, all delicious), home made stuffing wrapped in bacon, slow cooked Tesco gammon, and home made cranberry sauce.

It was truly amazing. I think spending a little extra on quality meat is worth it.
