Panasonic tv to LG soundbar
Help .... Just purchased new soundbar to connect with existing Panasonic smart tv. I have all the connections for using Hdmi & optical cable, not sure which is best to use?
I find Panasonic instructions impossible to understand, but basically I cant find how to set system up, everything is connected correctly but I cant find how to switch to external speakers on my tv remote menu, so nothing is going through the speakers at all. There is a bluetooth sub woofer also which green light is showing on, but no sound coming through it. Am I right in thinking once I have switched to external speakers I then turn my remote to mute? |

Which model TV and soundbar?
I'd start with just HDMI, or optical, not both. |

First off it would be helpful to know the models of the TV and Soundbar. That way we can check the manuals just to be sure that the information given is correct. Things tends to set up following a general method, but that doesn't mean it's always exactly the same for every product on all occasions.
In general terms then, optical is the simplest connection. All that should be involved is plugging in the cable correctly, then switching to the optical input on the soundbar and turning down the volume on the TV. That's it. ARC can be a little more involved. First it is essential to ensure that both devices support the 'sound by reverse HDMI connection' feature (hence why model numbers are important), and then there may well be some menu settings on the TV to change. The Bluetooth subwoofer should take care of itself once paired to the Soundbar. |

Thanks for that. The tv is a panasonic TX-L47DT50B smart tv and the soundbar LG 300W LAS455H.
I will have another go using optical cable. So it should immediately connect once volume is turned down? |

As chrisjr said, the TV volume has no impact on whether optical gives a signal or not. It should always give a signal regardless of the TV volume.
The point about the TV volume is to turn it down so that you hear only the soundbar speakers. If both TV and soundbar play together then there can be a slight echo effect because the timing is very slightly different. |

The TV volume is irrelevant. It has no effect at all on what comes out of the optical out. All you have to do is select OPTICAL on the soundbar remote and use the soundbar remote to control the volume.
