Ok, I've just watched the Christmas episode & what a strange & bizarre mix it was!!
I do applaud Stuart Blackburn (yes really ) for really trying hard with his last Christmas offering, let's face it he threw everything at it, but I think therein lies the problem, he sometimes tried way too hard!!
I loved the idea of the whole Street pulling together for Hope & her family but at times the whole thing was bordering on dreadful, cheesy Disneyland kitsch!! Just way too overdone, especially that horrendous opening scene!! Then sometimes it was back into Corrie community of old type stuff & really enjoyable again!!
The Tim /Sally stuff was good fun, it was nice to see Tracy get her comeuppance (though you just know it won't last), David & Kylie actually reuniting on Christmas day made a nice change & it was good to see nearly all the cast utilised, though the 'new Connor' stuff added nothing to the episode as usual!!

My verdict:- 10/10 for effort, 5/10 for execution!! It was not as good as I hoped for but nowhere near as bad as I feared, given the garbage we've had to put up with for the last two months!! That's about as honest as i can be!!

It was quite light and cosy feeling, I liked how the whole street came together which was nice but the whole lapland thing was way to corny, cheesy and if they had layered it on any thicker they would've needed shovels! I liked Sally, Tim, Kevin, Anna etc and the Platts, the Connors were okay but I loved seeing Leanne throwing snow over Tracy!

It wasn't as bad a I thought it was but I thought Emmerdale and EastEnders were much better.

I thought it was sickly, way over the top. The sight of norris and rita coming along the street singing had me reaching for the bucket.

I didn't mind it. Especially snobby Sally, and pissed Gail. Could have done without all the Connors input though.

If it was supposed to be Lapland brought to Weatherfield where were the Lap dancers?

I felt terribly sorry for Mary, wasn't really that interested in much else. Guess that's a bit bizarre since I loathe infidelity in any guise, but I've always loved Mary and Patti made her seem so sympathetic even though what she was doing was awful.

The opening reminded me of the Christmas episode of 'Men Behaving Badly' where there was all that cheesey waving and smiling in Christmas jumpers. That was high comedy. I rest my case

Best bit was Amy catching "vegetarian" Nessa stuffing turkey into her mouth and blackmailing her. She's learned from her mother how to get her own way, but fortunately hasn't inherited the nasty bitchiness from Tracey.

I felt like I'd overdosed on too much Christmas pudding, yet I hadn't eaten any!
It was far too twee. This Hope storyline is awful. It could have been so much better.

To be fair to Blackburn he said it would be a happy episode and for the most it was.

The winter wonderland theme was very schmultzy but enjoyable compared to the usual Christmas misery forced upon us by our friends in East London.

Haven't seen ED as yet.

Highlights of the Corrie special were Sally and Tim and Gail trying to be posh in front of Carla.

I have surprised myself by how much I actually liked it

It was cheesy but it was nice to have that for the time of year. I think almost everyone may have been involved? Which is great and there were some pretty funny moments/one liners.

It was awful. Like the worst Val Doonican Christmas special crossed with the worst Victorian sentimental Christmas card with a bit of reality chucked in here and there via Robert, Tracy and Mary. All that fawning guff of little girl talk for Hope and who's the other one? was enough to make me turn right away. Yes I know she's ill but talking like that to a kid is enought o make it panic.
It was a soup of sentimentality and nonsense. Rita leading a group down the street singing!

Ha ha haa!! You wish
Oh my days Christmas Corrie was awful. The Lapland stuff with the fake snow and half the Street out on the Street was just so unrealistic and sickly. To be honest I didn't really concentrate on it. It was on but I wasn't engaged with it. Yes I'd had a lot of wine and malibu but even so it wasn't interesting. Emmerdale was great on the other hand.

It was unrealistic, cheesy and sickly in the extreme. I thouight I must have tuned in to a Christmas panto by mistake
As for the Hope storyline, pass me the vomit bucket.
I really hope they kill her off in the New Year and spare us any more of this trite rubbish. Plus as a bonus we will see less of Fizz.

Me too! I thought it was terrible, so cheesy and corny. One of the worst episodes of Corrie I've have watched.

Awful. Just awful. Okay, I don't expect murdersnand gun showdowns (looking at you EE) but some storyline development would have been nice, at the very least!

EE, over the top but brilliant compared to Corrie, I'd say both episodes were over the top in different ways.

Emmerdale was the best for me.

It was too saccharine and ridiculous. All that fake snow not just all over the street but on the adjoining roads and in the back yards. It's highly unlikely Tyrone had permission to restrict not just one but three public highways, the council would've been alerted and would've had a field day. Corrie has a reputation for community/light-hearted scenes but this made me cringe.

She's getting there though. Far too many awful children in the show.

OTT, dreadful, corny, not even good enough to be called pantomime. The writing for the Connors is cringemaking and they need to be quickly written out and forgotten. All little Hope wanted was her warm home and her Mummy to cuddle her; keeping her out in the bittler cold, looking at the grotesque street scene, could have caused her to have a relapse. The only redeeming feature was Mary, who always gives a good performance.
