But the point was Izzy said she hadn't been to see her GP, so she didn't even know if her GP could have helped her with her pain management or not, why would someone who had never used cannabis before suddenly decide too before even knowing there was no alternative?

Because it was required by the scriptwriters for her to have a fall which would increase the amount of pain she was in so much that she needs to take cannabis that is how and why it happened.

The cannabis plot will be forgotten soon anyway.which means more face pulling and whizzing around the factory floor with her head down looking ashamed. She'll go and see a doctor to discuss it, the doctor will give some advice on better ways to get pain relief, then a couple of episodes later Izzy's pain will be gone and she'll be back to normal.
