Where was this feistiness with the bullies?”

She was fiesty, then kept quiet when the bully pulled her hair. Not exactly an SOR that she decided to take it out on Sarah and her family, but I thought she'd be the one bullying the kids.

Digging up the past here, but I wonder what became of Faye's bully friend Grace Piper who dressed Simon up as a girl and filmed it. Is she still at the school or did she disappear into that mysterious wormhole where most forgotten plots and characters end up?

Anyone can be the victim of bullying. Just because you look tough on the exterior doesn't mean you aren't vulnerable when faced with something like that. I imagine if she flounced into the school bragging about her time in Italy then some of the kids might not have taken kindly to her.

Steph complimented Andy's backside when the clothing he was wearing showed nothing off.

How can a group of 5 girls even be bothered with bullying in their last year at secondary school? Yes Bethany was revising for her GCSE's...as is most people in your year seeing as you're 2 months away from your exams. How do they know so much about Bethany, especially where she lives as she never has any friends over. Wouldn't be surprised if on Monday the bullies give her a wedgie and stick her head in a toilet, the dialogue and their actions (cutting off her hair? Really? Like as if you wouldn't get caught for that) seemed reminiscent of a Simpsons episode tonight.

I understand what they were trying to do, showing that anyone can be vulnerable to bullying. But then again were they? The only other corrie kids in secondary school are Faye, Simon and Amy and 2 of them have been involved in a bullying storyline already. Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't think about that aspect at all and just chose the only one that they haven't used yet. Either way the storyline just doesn't work because once again there has been no build-up. On Monday we learned that she's been skipping school but we haven't seen Bethany or her acting in the way that she has done this week despite this supposedly happening for weeks before. I hope that this isn't an over and done with check off of Blackburn's list for social issues to cover but I have little doubt that it's going to be that way.

At least we can finally put this to rest now:

I think we all saw the scene, but because the character was telling lies left right and centre it was impossible to tell if she was lying to Sinead or not.
Maybe the producers were keeping their options open?

The way Bethany has behaved since she has been around just means I just don't care whether she is being bullied or not, and to be honest it's unbelievable, if anyone would be bullying anyone it would be her.

I think at next year's Soap Awards they should introduce 'Superhuman Hearing Award'

It amazes me how characters can hear conversations word for word, held by people sitting quite a distance away.

Last night in The Rovers, Norris and Mary at the bar, could hear every word that Sally was saying to Tim, sitting in a booth. Sally wasn't even talking very loudly, not like she does normally when she's trying to impress.

Tracy, also has superhuman hearing skills. She can always overhear anything to do with Robert or The Bistro and the number of characters who can hear a conversation when they are hardly through the door is mind blowing.

Bethany wasn't revising for her exams, but reading up on human reproduction -presumably to understand more about her mum's (Sarah's) current condition.

I agree. I remember Alya saying its negative but because we never saw the test result on screen and she said it's negative, in my opinion, in an unconvincing way, many people we're not sure whether she was telling the truth or not.

So Bethany's 'bully' conveniently has her mobile number and not only that Bethany has it stored in her phone too including a picture of the 'bully'

As long as one of those options is an exit story for her ...

We often debate the credibilty of s story line but, for me, the problem is the "box ticking" - the way contributors here are often able to comment that such a story has already been used multiple times.

Now we have yet another bullying story, the most unlikely yet, and like the others (especially Faye's) it will probably sink without trace.

I see Underworld is on the brink of closure yet again. Every single contract seems to be keeping their head above the water and if they lose it thats it, everyone is out of a job.

Yet still Aiden feels the need to boast about how proud a job hes doing.

When Jason came in, Todd said to Bethany "Do you want to go to my place ?"

Where is that ? Doesnt he live at Eileen's ?

At the risk of being accused of giving a lecture and apologising for basing my comment on my experience, the bullying of Bethany is not an SOR. You can’t say that person A is likely to be a bully, but person B isn’t even if you know them. The same applies to who is likely to be a victim.

What is an SOR is that the teacher passing by didn’t notice a group of girls in a huddle, if only in his peripheral vision, and that he didn’t go and see what they were up to, although nowadays teachers do have to be careful that their actions aren’t distorted/misinterpreted and they end up facing legal action. Where in the past I’d have physically pulled fighting pupils apart, I’d leave them now and go for assistance even if one was obviously badly injured.

Bethany’s reaction could, but not necessarily, also be an SOR because she’s such a strong person. I doubt that she’d just bunk off school, throw a cake and cry at text messages – she’s such a confident person, and not being able to cope with the bullies would be such a shock to her that I think she’d become more withdrawn, especially now that bullying isn’t restricted to personal contact.

Did the possibility of bullying not get considered at the open evening when the truancy came out? It would be one of the first things a school would look at and keep an eye open for.

I think this bit is true to life actually. The bullies are very often a group of friends that have turned on one person.

I'm glad you posted that, I thought I was hearing things! I don't remember Todd ever having a place of his own

Just don;t see gobby Bethany as the victim of bullying much more likely to be the bully so wan't waste my time having any sympathy for her.

When Marta arrived at Eva and Leanne's I reckon one of the first things she'd have done would be have a bath or shower, so why didn’t she wash her hair tòo? Wouldn't she look pathetic enough with clean, shiny locks?

Having what looked like artificially whitened teeth sort of spoilt the poor little slave girl image too.

Bethany was pretty heavily outnumbered.

One thing I could see her doing is start carrying something she could use as a weapon - a kitchen knife or scissors or something - to defend herself if she thinks nobody else can or will.

She could always carry one of Gail's cakes with her to throw at them.
