You're telling me you actually want them to depict a character on-screen taking a crap?

I don't mind recasts too much. It's better than killing everyone off and then bringing them back. Hope EE have also realised this. Corrie are far too lazy and stupid to put much thought into any serious planning. They live for the moment and plan SLs to suit their agenda, whether it makes any sense or not.

I wondered about that but then it takes all sorts!

One of my first jobs was 'apprentice chef'. You do start off in the kitchen learning skills and have days at college.
In the kitchen you do some of the cooking, mostly stuff that dos not need a qualified chef's skill.

I got bored with the long hours and left.

we used to see stan ogden sat in the outside bog reading his paper back in the old days of corrie. In one episode he tells Hilda he can smell burning and they realise Elsie's house (next door) is on fire

No, I'm not saying that, but hearing a toilet flush occasionally, or water flowing out from a bath or a sink might suggest just a tiny bit of realism - there is absolutely none at the moment.

Yes. That will improve Corrie.

I suspect that has probably changed in the intervening years, GG. In the olden days, there was a lot of training on the job in many different trades but these days you need to have already formally trained at college and have a qualification before you can start up as an apprentice. It's beyond ridiculous that Zeedan could be hired as a chef with no experience, no training and not even a basic qualification in cookery skills.

Add it to the fact that it's obvious that cups and mugs are empty and no-one actually drinks, no-one arrives home with a week's shopping, that even the larger households only ever have a pint of milk, that very few ever eat at home, that the hairdressers only ever poke at hair, that machinists only ever fiddle with knickers, all street residents play musical partners and all the other things that people normally do and it would help. Although, of course, the biggest fix needs to be the storylines and scripts.

^^^ All of this but most of all the scripts!

Reading all these issues makes me realise just how amateur a production Corrie is; especially the first. How difficult can it be to have someone drink a real cup of tea or coffee? Corrie certainly needs to make the simple stuff that happens on the street convincing.

Bet Lynch certainly made it convincing in the back room of Rovers with a cluttered table of cups, bits of toast, hair rollers, fags on the go and a make-up free Bet. Now that was convincing. That was when some thought went into a simple scene.

We're never allowed to see Liz and Michelle looking at their worst when they've just got out of bed. In EE, before opening time, Linda Carter is often seen without make-up. Corrie seems to think they have to preserve the image of their feisty woman at all times. Liz has to be a super-glamorous, sexy landlady and Michelle has to have thick eyeliner with her 'signature' flicks in each corner. Bet Lynch was more than the one dimensional character of these women. Mind you, when she was hospitalised, Sinead was allowed lashings of mascara.

Spoiler
No doubt when Carla is fighting for her life very soon, it will be done in full make-up.

BTW Does Corrie still beat EE and ED in the ratings?

And isn't he clever? Aren't cake making/decoration a different set of skills to that of a chef?

BIB: perhaps they started with full cups, but by the time "Take 17" came around, they'd had enough to drink. but you'd think they'd pretend a bit better

When is the last time we have seen the upper floor of the Corrie houses? We always see either the living room or kitchen, that's it. So I doubt we will hear a toilet flush, or a bath flowing. Sometimes I wonder if the Corrie houses actually have an upper floor, or when the characters go upstairs they disappear into a type of wormhole or other dimension where they go into limbo until they are required to return to Corrieland.

Sometimes I wish characters would eat in their homes more instead of always going to the cafe. I guess they do it for interaction sake, but who would really bother getting up and heading over to the cafe for a cup of tea when they can simply make one in their own home (which would also be peaceful without prying residents). Honestly, it isn't that difficult to make.

When Bet was led away to an ambulance following the fire at the Rovers, she quipped to a paramedic: "Can you give me a minute, love, give me time to put my face on"

Bet was the star of that episode, hard to forget the fire crawling up her dressing gown, that scream and spewing all over the floor. Little touches that made it so real. Whereas now it's all show; the fire at Victoria Court was terrible and unconvincing.

I really think the writers could learn a thing or two from watching Classic Corrie episodes. Sure, Bet was of her time, but she wasn't just a barmaid, but a manageress. There were some good breakfast scenes between staff -- Betty, Raquel, Jack, Liz, Alec, having a slice of toast, pouring a cuppa and rambling on about life and love. We don't get that now, it's just Connors, McDonalds and Liz wearing that horrid onesie. You wouldn't think Sarah, Sean or Eva work there.

Corrie has dropped more than a million viewers under Blackburn. It's still #1 based on first-time viewing, but EE seems to rate well on catchup TV.

Good. It's got it's faults but there is a lot more planning in every aspect of EE.

As far as I'm aware, yes. I know quite a lot of local bakers / cake creators (including one of my best friends), but not many of them (if any) stretch into professional cooking. Zeedan's sudden leap to kitchen master is really baffling me Did I miss him not wanting to work in the gym? He makes a dish for Roberto and suddenly he's t'Bistro's new rising star!

Do you think Tracey / Rob are going to have their head shoved in the cake? I love a wedding, me....

When we went round the old Corrie set we were shown that the houses didn't have an upper floor. When a character went upstairs they just got as far as out of camera view and had to wait there, and sometimes apparently the camera revealed part of their feet. The sets were just downstairs rooms, though now they have moved we do get angles and views we didn't before, but I bet they still don't go upstairs.
