What was wrong with the Linda's rape SL? It was better than that Frank Foster rubbish in Corrie where his mother killed him. Some of it was ok but it was obvious the murderer was his mother- who didn't guess it was her? That was another waste Gwen Taylor a good actress. Just like Corrie wasted Samuel West. EE really showed Corrie up when the cast him as the Carter's father. In EE, he was given a role where he could do some good acting.
The Lucy Beale murder was well planned and culminated in the live eps reveal. Since that the SL has had many twists and turns and it has been well planned. Corrie could never manage to do that. They can never keep anything secret. All is revealed in spoilers in an attempt to gain viewers. The actual event is never lives up to the hype.
The Shirley is Mick's mum was good because it was a slow burn and allowed to build. The Connors arrive in Corrie and next thing is lo and behold Johnny is Carla's dad. We had not even got to know the new Connors. So no-one gave a toss. And Rob shouting the odds from jail was nonsense.
If the actors are available, returns are a good thing. It shows characters out of the square popping in and out as required and adding some variety to the soap. Part time characters are something which EE does very well. As for Grant, he would never have been out of EE if he is expected to turn up for every family drama and the actor hasn't wanted a return for some time. The actor concerned has a choice whether he returns or not.
On the whole, EE seem to have a much stronger cast than Corrie. However, I'm not sure the Corrie cast ever have the opportunity to show what they can really do. These days it's full of weird, comedy characters and feisty women.
Corrie has always been my fave. It's just so disappointing to see what it's become.”
TImothy West was recently asked by Piers Morgan what his favourite soap was: Corrie or Eastenders.
He said both, but when pushed, he opted for the latter. Why? Because he got to know it a bit better and undoubtedly felt he wasn't treated as some spare part.
I dip in and out of EE, and the current material isn't so bad. The cast is as good as any British drama, so it's always a matter of finding the right storylines and characters to bond. I didn't think I would enjoy watching Stacy having another breakdown, but she portrays it very well. The Shirley reveal was way better than Johnny's, but I doubt anything will ever come close to Kat/Zoe.
DTC gets the history, he knows how to treat loyal viewers and isn't patronising. Yes, he has favourites like Blackburn does, but there are no nasty cliques.

This thread is the only reason I watch Corrie now. Spot how many silly mistakes there are in 30 minutes.

No bounds to Jason's talents.

Codswallop.
Corrie clangers are
more prominent, that's all.
As long as the dialogue stays true to the character and plots are engaging, realistic and different, no one would say a word. And you can say that for 80% of the other big two soaps.
How long did it take Sinead to recover from her 'life-threatening' injury? Contrast that to Patrick's stroke and speech impairment on EE, and need I say more.
When I watch EE, I'm often immersed in the goings-on, so I don't feel the need to scrutinise every single thing, because it usually leads up to something interesting. Cannot say the same about Corrie, as the producers promote hammy acting, stupidly reveal EVERYTHING weeks before and do little to correct the outlandish plots.
In fact, an old Corrie hallmark were the scenes between two characters, going on for 7, 8 minutes. Now it's just short and snappy dialogues which amount to nothing. And I guess it's because they have to accommodate filming time for the actors, who never have enough time to rehearse!! Antony Cotton would probably faint twice over if he had the same schedule as Kellie Bright. And given all the time off by the ITV bosses.....
