It was a slow burner, some subtle hints that Kat had given up a child; there was a brilliant throwaway line by Zoe when Sonia was in labour about getting pregnant at that age. And then a few weeks before 'Who Shot Philth?' the audience learnt the truth. You had to wait eight months or something for that 'You ain't that muvva' scene.

Contrast that to the Connors and Johnny finding out he's Carla's father. So what? It's not like she's a teenager, Carla's a mentally-unstable adult (or that's how the writers like to portray her). And the actress is leaving so how is it going to change family dynamics? A poorly executed and paced storyline, with no punch. The whole clan clearly were drafted in just to keep Carla in the spotlight until she leaves.

If there is a populist view as Corrie being the worst, what's wrong with that? This is the SOR thread. Anyway, like any other post, it would be just an opinion. No other SOR thread has survived as long as this thread, so there must be something wrong at Corrie. And where exactly are people slated as if they don't know what they are talking about?

I recently expressed a view that EE was in some ways better than Corrie. Someone replied, which they have every right to do but started by saying my post was 'nonsense'. So you see posters with different views do dare to express their opinions and they do their own bit of slating too. And of course I replied to their post!

I don't think I was watching much EE then. I certainly wasn't when Phil Mitchell was shot by that Lisa woman. The Kat/Zoe 'You ain't my muvva' scene is now a classic. So I've seen that a fair few times. As I said before I loved the shot that looking down on them on the road. At least EE put some effort into making a scene work.

Carla and the Connors? Who cares? Johnny's not been round long enough to give a damn about. The Connor clan are there to take over when Carla leaves. They have to have Connors to support Michelle because they couldn't get rid of her wonderfulness and they must keep the factory in Connor hands because nothing much on Corrie can ever change. It has to be stuck in a rut. So places are easily recognisable as belonging to Jack and Vera in the past. I'm only surprised Kevin didn't reinstate Hilda's murial! The other houses stay much the same too. How long has that wallpaper been up at the Nazirs? Did the Armstrong-Windasses put it up? Anyway, they've had the same or similar paper up in that house since that doctor lived there. That house has to have blue wallpaper. When are the Platts going to decorate? That paper has been up for eons. And don't get me started on Fiz and Ty's house!

Part of the enjoyment of watching Corrie is exchanges and opinions on this thread. At least it's laughable, which is more than can be said for EE.

The fact that there's no SOR thread for EE suggest to me that its fans just accept the ludicrous storylines, like the number of times Phil Mitchell has been close to death for a variety of reasons - how many times has he been shot now?

I used to live in the East End of London - my father knew the Kray twins - but it was never like it is in EE. I haven't lived in Manchester, but assume it's nothing like Corrie either (although there have been 68 bodies found in the canals around Manchester in the last year), but I'll stick with Corrie rather than watch the abomination depicted as the place I grew up in EE.

I agree that Corrie needs to be rescued and hopefully Kate Oates will sort it out and get it back to the soap it used to be.

Well I obviously missed the bit where Carla got attacked by vicious thugs with baseball bats in the ambulance on the way to hospital as there no logical way whatsoever she could have possibly received that amount of injuries from falling out of a car travelling down a short cobbled street at around 20/25 mph max and rolling over a couple of times. Totally ridiculous!

Sally wants a 20mph speed limit in Coronation Street after Carla's "accident"

The car she was hanging out of must of only been going about 8 miles an hour when she fell out

The paramedics left a lot to be desired tonight. The way Carla was bouncing about on that stretcher as the wheels (of the stretcher) bumped over the cobbles - I am surprised she didn't bounce off it completely.

they did a variation on a theme with that one years back with Mike Baldwin asking Danny who was on the tv. Danny says Fern Brittan and Mike says I dont usually go for fat birds but in her case i'll make an exception

Leanne 'thank god there wasn't much in the till' while her business partner's fiancée is in hospital. All heart isn't she

Anna 'Izzy can you come round love?' Well that'd be a no as she has a pre schooler to put to bed. Nowt to stop Anna going to Izzy's of course.

EE make up for it with some decent stuff. On the other hand Corrie rubbish most of the time.

Did your father have any dealings with the Krays?

And Carla's surgeons must be the speediest ones in the world, they've removed a spleen in the time it's taken the Rovers regulars to have a couple of rounds

He drank with them and they were very good to people they respected - but other people ...........................

Most people in the east end were supportive and friendly with their neighbours and didn't come into contact with any of the underworld. My dad did, but none of the rest of the family were even aware.

Yeah but EE don't have a Pat Phelan. He makes Corrie far more superior over the other soaps.

I thought that. Why couldn't Anna have gone to her house???

Where was Jake?

Gary is "away" apparently, and Izzy came round by herself.

Because she couldn't bring Faye around to Sally and Tim, they were in the Rovers!

We made comments about this at Cedric Towers

Me:

Why bother with a 20 mph speed limit, as by the time a car has turned in and started to get up speed, it'll be at the other end and slowing for the corner?!

Mrs Cedric:

And is a 20 mph speed limit going to affect robbers trying to make a getaway fro m the scene of a crime with a Connor hanging out?!

Surprisingly, they did actually give a nod to this, as Anna said to Izzy

"Thank you so much for coming around, I'm sorry you had to waste a babysitter"

(Hopefully Izzy isn't a gangster and this didn't mean she had to kill a babysitter! )

So Jason was in Gails annexe rolling back the carpet that David had so expertly laid. Why? He knows already its a concrete floor!
As for Carlas brush with death. I, as a child, came off go-carts at speeds greater than that car was going and suffered little more than a few grazes. She has several broken ribs, a discolated shoulder, internal bleeding and a bloody great gash on her face. Drama queen!!!
And as someone else pointed out, in the time it took for the alcos to down a couple of drinks in the Rovers, the surgeon had completed his (or her) operation on Carla.

We had a hospital scene, where Carla is in recovery even if she's not in ICU, and yet Tracey is able to wander about the place, stand at the open door to the room and eavesdrop. Hmmmm

Bit worried about Carla - she's unconscious in a hospital bed after surgery and.......... no nose tube!!!!!!!

Thanks for that. The pub wasn't The Blind Beggar was it? My father's family were from that part of London but moved in the 50s before I was around. I know nothing about their time there but am fascinated by the East End underworld. I'd like to know what their experiences were but it's too late now. I have read a lot of fiction set in the London/Essex criminal underworld. I am currently reading the Agatha Raisin books which are very different!

I like the actor playing Phelan. He's very good. I just hope that teeny, little neanderthal Kev doesn't get the better of him. I'd find that hard to believe.

Liz was certainly all flirty with Phelan in the Rovers. Hope he's not next through the bar flap. Wait till Anna tells her all about him..............
