The project is no more than notional, one way or the other, whether Phelan intends building the apartments or doesn't intend building them. All that has happened is that he has received planning permission for the project. The idea that the police would come around and arrest Phelan on the say so of Todd and take him away in a squad car is just laughable. In fact, it sounds like Todd rang the police and didn't even meet them face to face (!)

The scriptwriters don't seem to have a clue how the law works. You can't get a person arrested by making an anonymous phone call to the police and saying "I think my next door neighbour may be planning to commit fraud at some point in future. I've no proof of anything but would you come around and arrest him please?".

I'm probably being a bit slow but I don't really understand this storyline. What exactly have they got planning permission for as would they not need to produce plans of their proposed build? I'm assuming they only took Eileen to that massive building to impress her but have actually nothing to do with it (funny they were easily able to gain access to it though). So if it's nothing to do with them where is the building/piece of land they've given the council the plans of?

i confess I'm a it confused about this. I thought they had actually bought a place but not on that massive scale like the building they took Eileen to. And that's because, like you, I couldn't see how they could apply to the council for planning permission if they don't own the building/land. Wasn't the place they were talking about originally, where Alex's club met, somewhere completely different? And wouldn't Eileen already know which building it was?

This one is certainly one of the most ridiculous arrests ever (and there have been plenty on the show). He only got planning permission for the proposed development of the apartments that afternoon : even if he wasn't crooked, there's no guarantee whatsoever that the flats would be built, problems with the site could emerge in the meantime. The idea that he could be arrested for a fraud that hasn't even taken place and might never take place is a joke.

You can apply for planning permission on any piece of ground/building, whether you own it or not. Where I live, a local notorious builder frequently applies for planning permission on council owned land to build various leisure facilities "for the benefit of the community", but really to line his own pockets with the profits from said facility. So far he hasn't succeeded.

You can apply for planning permission to build a block of flats on premises already owned by someone else in the hope they will sell it to you. If they won;t they'll just have wasted what it costs to get that permission.

All that has happened is that Phelan has submitted plans for a development for new apartments and has just received planning permission. But that's still pretty meaningless, lots of people receive planning permission but never proceed with the development for various reasons.

Todd ringing the police and getting Phelan arrested because he might be thinking about swindling people out of a few bob is beyond laughable.....the police can't haul you in for questioning about a fraud that hasn't even been committed and might never be committed.

As usual the timings were all over the place. Steph and Andy were putting chairs on tables at the bistro like they were closing. So wouldn't it have been dark? Later, Todd and Phelan had their showdown in broad daylight.

So what's in store for Andy? He said to Steph he only took the Bistro job as a stop-gap. Will he leave, take another job as a male stripper, get found out by Steph and be back at the bistro by the end of the week?!!

Billy the Vic. Will he leave the church and become a qualified social worker in no time at all?

Back at the factory, where were shirt busting Aidan, pouty Eva and OTT Sean when Beth was arrested? Eva and Sean would have loved that but that lot are only around when Eva's fawning all over Aidan or interfering in a gay friend's life.

Cathy has moved into a bedroom with Roy. But that was all Anna's doing. There's no chemistry there between Roy and Cathy, not even friendship. Hayley and Roy had plenty of chat. Hayley always told Roy what was what. Cathy didn't dare say anything to Roy. Yet they are engaged. How did that happen? She barely speaks to him.

Emma Bridgewater does stuff with a similar heart design I believe, don't know about umbrellas though? I can just about believe Maria might have a designer EB umbrella if that was what it was but can't honestly see Anna with a designer pinny!!

I thought Anna's conversation with Roy was a bit inappropriate. She should really keep her thoughts to herself and if I remember correctly, Cathy didn't even bring up the subject with her, it was Anna nosing around.

That's a different argument. Whether the actors have any chemistry, or the writers give them lines that make it believable, it doesn't affect my reasoning that Roy might have been changed by his relationship with Hayley.

It's character development. Or do people think he would be 're-set' to pre-Hayley Roy?

I would say Roy is a lot more mature and grounded after his relationship with Hayley, but I doubt he would have gotten into a relationship with another woman so soon after her death.

It's hard to see where this relationship with Cathy has come from since there's never any kind of interaction that brings them together. She's living with him and they're engaged. How did that happen?!

Surely before planning permission can be granted there has to be a public notice displayed about the intended build in case there are any objections. If that's the case there would have to be an actual site to develop - so who owns this?

Yes. It goes into the local papers and notices are delivered to near neighbours and posted on telegraph poles in the street around the area.

You are right. Roy may well fall for someone else.

I would never expect him to have another relationship like he did with Hayley. That relationship was special. Julie Hesmondhalgh was so good in the part of Hayley. Cathy is played by a more than decent actress but Corrie have never let this relationship develop so they can have any chemistry or so that the viewers can see any relationship whatsoever.

It was:

Find Roy a woman. Tick.
Move her in with him. Fire at her home. She moves in. Tick.
Get them engaged. Cathy proposes to Roy. Roy finally accepts. Tick.

Job done. Before and since these events, it's been carry on, nothing to see here! Didn't Anna Windass even advise on the proposal?
