Yes, I agree with that. But Alex, like many others with a learning disability - and I do speak from experience - has people to look out for him, make sure he isn't conned out of the little money he has. Cathy is at fault for encouraging this stupid idea of his owning a flat, and actually trying to drum up the money when she knows he can never pay it back and would never get a mortgage. And yes, she has a nerve expecting Roy to hand his money over to her nephew.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, would any mortgagee actually lend money on a property built by two blokes who don't even have a trading name? Is the Nat. Housebuilders' Council, or whatever, still operational, and if so, surely any lender would want to know its got a secure loan. So, all that's available to Patvin Developments (I rather like that name!) would surely be deposits from the likes of Alex.

Plus Phelan's partner (can't remember his name) admitted on Monday he is seriously in debt and owes money to dodgy types (and is therefore broke). It seems hard to imagine how such a firm could secure a load of £15k deposits when they're in no position to even commence the development.

That's all they are after, lots of deposits (to protect the flat from being sold to someone else when it is ready), they obviously don't want people going for mortgages (and will be long gone before it got to that stage anyway).

Houses and flats in new developments can often get sold long before they are built.

It's just a long list of contrivances and how everything works in Phelan's favour. If these didn't happen there would be no plot and he'd be on his way, but the universe is on his side.

They get sold if the company building is reputable, with a solid record of completed developments. Would anyone hand £15 k over to Fishy & Dodgy, backstreet builders with a history of bankruptcy and debt?

No, you don't need to enter a PIN to answer a call.”

Yes, they are smartphones, but not connected to the internet. Don't send or receive emails on them and rarely text. Can't understand people permanently glued to their phones.

They are phones, i.e.for making and receiving phone calls when not at home, which isn't often because most things are not so important that they won't wait until we're home again. Do have a couple of books and games on them for when we're stuck waiting for something.

And as they PAYG, anyone who uses it can only use up whatever money is on the phone.

I thought it was a brilliant plot development! The person who Alex thought was his Dad for all these years turns out not to be his Dad after all!! What a great idea. I wonder why soaps have never used this storyline before?

cathy hasn't received them, nessa has, until Alex was 18, then he would. But Cathy
might have noticed the payments going out every month since 1986 if it was a joint account

also makes alex's uncle his dad as well

can nobody in soap have a normal family tree

Cathy the self-absorbed clown was so interested in her problems that she forgot her fiance's birthday and didn't seem to be that bothered about it.

Get rid Roy.

Too right. She mostly just walked past everyone when she got back and went straight upstairs to look at the bank statements for what must be the first time ever. Shameful. Get your head out of your arse woman. As long as Nessa does't come back to help Alex that is OK, she was horrendous. And since when have Yasmeen and Cathy been so friendly that Yasmeen will chauffeur her about. Get a taxi woman.

I may have missed something then. Was it not her bank statement she looked at to see who the money came from?

It was very odd. Surely it would have been Nessa receiving the maintenance payments from Alex's dad not Cathy and Nessa's bank statement wouldn't have been conveniently lying around in Roy's flat.

The coincidental bumping into someone in the street got stretched a bit tonight

Todd and Phelan were stood outside the building yard, talking to someone (I forget who) and Tracey spotted them and wandered down to join in. Trouble is, she was wearing her flower shop pinny and carrying a watering can, so I guess we were supposed to think she was stood outside the florists tending the exterior display and just happened to spot them? But how, can she see round 90 degree corners?

Talking of Todd and Phelan. Why were they talking to people, some who we have never seen before, about the new development, whilst stood in the builders yard? Was there an open day? Why have they bothered with the fancy Portakabin on the development site if they are going to do sales events from the scuzzy yard?

I really thought taking a break from the pregnancy storyline would be great....but this Phelan and Cathy crap takes the biscuit.

I don't think that Todd is being as nasty as we think he is, I think he is setting Pat up. Though why Pat trusts him is anyones guess.

I wondered about the bank statement, if that was what Cathy looked at and thought it must be one showing her hubby's payments. But that in itself raises a number of questions.

We must wait and see. Corrie will explain it all to us.

Or maybe not and it will all be forgotten like so many SLs.

Like Mary's motorhome and Cathy's nice house - what happened to those?! Who would just leave their very expensive motorhome with the council - even if she decided she didn't want it anymore, now she's living at Dev's, get it back and sell it.

I have to FF when he's on screen, just terrible, a right plank of wood. Why have Alex and Cathy been so forcibly shoehorned into Roy's life? They're not a good fit with him at all, and there's no warmth or chemistry between Roy and Cathy, they're not believable as a couple.

Are you talking about the same Todd who played a trick on his own mother pretending to be an online date for her and then humiliating her in the Bistro by revealing the truth in front of everyone, also the same Todd who tried to rip off Tyrone and Fizz by using inferior materials for their loft conversion which resulted in Tyrone's accident and Jason's business having to pay them back?

Let's consider the scam that Phelan and co going to pull they obtain £15k from every potential buyer of the flats, which Phelan said would be 40 flats so that's £600k to split 3 ways or so Phelan said, so £200k each, now that relies on the victims paying the money into Vinnie's bank account and him doing a runner with it, I mean really is that the best the scriptwriters can come up with, because surely Phelan and whoever is left after Vinny does one will have to carry the can for the scam?

The Phelan storyline is annoying me - would Eileen really not think hang on this is the same sort of scam Anna warned me about - he's building flats and wanted money from people then....I know it's not completely the same, the mill flats Owen and Gary were helping to build were going to be sold but still......

I suppose there would never be any storylines though if people had common sense on the street.
