Liz was certainly all flirty with him in the Rovers. Wait till Anna tells her all about him..............
The moment that Liz spoke to him, to my mind they were already telegraphing that before long they will be a couple....

Thanks for that. The pub wasn't The Blind Beggar was it? My father's family were from that part of London but moved in the 50s before I was around. I know nothing about their time there but am fascinated by East End underworld. I'd like to know what their experiences were but it's too late now. I have read a lot of fiction set in the London/Essex criminal underworld. I am currently reading the Agatha Raisin books which are very different!

I like the actor playing Phelan. He's very good. I just hope that teeny, little neanderthal Kev doesn't get the better of him. I'd find that hard to believe.

Then Liz can screech and humiliate him in front of the pub. She is used to doing that to people.

Hopefully he sticks around, but predictable Corrie will probably get rid of him after a few weeks.

Bit worried about Carla - she's unconscious in a hospital bed after surgery and.......... no nose tube!!!!!!!
Dont worry, the nose tube will be making a guest appearance.

Wasn't Liz around when the Phelan saga was going on? Nobody knew about the prostitution but they all knew about Phelan being the cause of the Armstrong/Windass trouble, didnt they? And he had been in the Rovers a few times. Shouldn't somebody have recognised him?

How many times has Carla had her spleen removed now.

Aidan and Kate Connor didn't look one bit concerned about Carla lying in the road. Probably just thought 'oh dear, she must have started early and no tea'.

Anna 'Izzy can you come round love?' Well that'd be a no as she has a pre schooler to put to bed. Nowt to stop Anna going to Izzy's of course.
Well except they'd have to build the set for Izzy's flat. Easier to make us believe Izzy had to ring a babysitter and winch herself up the stairs to Anna's. Or Anna could have phoned her.

If someone phoned me and said "Come round. Something has happened" without elaborating further, I would assume something tragic had happened and be inclined to thump them when I got there and found it was only that Phelan was in the street.

I think it was clearly a very conscious homage to it, so not really a "rip-off" or plagiarism as described earlier.

Whether it was actually funny this time round (not really IMHO) is another matter...
If it was a conscious homage then it was poorly done, it was very cringe worthy and it certainly wasn't funny.

Can't remember as I was a teenager at the time they were most active in the late 50s/early 60s and, as I said, unless you were in direct contact with them, you weren't really aware of what they were up to apart from what was reported. We didn't know at the time that my father had any contact with them because he was a perfectly normal father and, as far as we know, did nothing other than have a drink with them. I think he was far too honest and moral to have got involved in anything. He didn't judge people. So, if someone was a thief he was a thief and that's as far as his judgement went.

Ron and Reg were altar boys for my old vicar, when he was in Bethnal Green.

We had a hospital scene, where Carla is in recovery even if she's not in ICU, and yet Tracey is able to wander about the place, stand at the open door to the room and eavesdrop. Hmmmm

Bit worried about Carla - she's unconscious in a hospital bed after surgery and.......... no nose tube!!!!!!!
We said that in our house - how is she going to get better without the magic nose tubes?!

Also agree about the stretcher on the cobbles. I winced as Carla bumped and crashed along a few inches from the ground.

If what appeared to be a low speed fall onto cobbles can cause that much damage to a person there is only one course of action available.

The cobbles must be ripped up and tarmac laid.

So Jason was in Gails annexe rolling back the carpet that David had so expertly laid. Why? He knows already its a concrete floor!
As for Carlas brush with death. I, as a child, came off go-carts at speeds greater than that car was going and suffered little more than a few grazes. She has several broken ribs, a discolated shoulder, internal bleeding and a bloody great gash on her face. Drama queen!!!
And as someone else pointed out, in the time it took for the alcos to down a couple of drinks in the Rovers, the surgeon had completed his (or her) operation on Carla.
I had a not dissimilar accident a couple of weeks ago. Too boring to explain the details, but I was dragged along the ground a bit then dropped to the ground at about that speed. I suffered nothing more than bruises and scrapes. The worst part for me was not being able to stand up again - not from injuries but because of arthritis - and I had to be hauled to my feet by a passer-by I didn't know, which was all very embarrassing indeed.

Carla's accident brought it all back!

Pretty stupid comment from Sally about they should have 20 MPH limit in the street, it was 2 crooks trying to escape from a robbery did she actually think they would have took any notice of the speed limit.

Just think when she decides to stand in the local election to get on the council expect some right gems in her campaigning.

Two Kevin based observations:

- Not entirely sure why Anna and Kevin are having to contact all their family to tell everyone that they are going out. It'll only be a second or third date, but they are already acting like they will soon be living together (which of course they will, even if at this stage they don't know if they will get on). Anyway, when having "the talk" with Faye, Anna said

"You'll have to get to know new people, like Jack and.... Rosie"

Er, isn't Rosie Sophie's sister, in which case Faye should already be getting to know her if she's getting to know Sophie, as Tim's step-daughter?
This Anna - Kevin thing is quite nonsensical. Two people who have known each other for years and have never felt the slightest attraction for each other have now (very implausibly) gone on a couple of dates and are formally announcing to their families they are in a "relationship". This might work if it was coming off the back of them holding a torch for each other for years : seeing as the only thing they have in common is that they live on the same street, you'd imagine the two of them would be trying to downplay it's significance but also that they wouldn't be very optimistic about it going anywhere and see it as just a short term thing themselves.

The cobbles ripped up? The cobbles ARE Coronation Street! The hallowed cobbles can never be ripped up.

It was laughable the way Sophie reacted with 'like what,' when Sally said she knew a lot about different things. What the hell does Sophie Webster know? Yet she's at the garage behaving like she's the world's next billionaire businessperson. Donald Trump better watch out.

We've seen Izzys place before I'm sure? Unless she's moved since her and Gary split up...

This. - and the ridiculous sight of them, particularly Anna, acting like naive teenagers at the breakfast table in Monday's episode.

Both of them are usually cynical and world weary, none of it rings true......the whole thing looks really forced.
