Why do you admire him?? You don't know the level of his understanding. You don't know of his upbringing. You don't know who he knows. For all you know, he may have had a better upbringing and education than a poor lad born to an abusive family. He may have been born to rich parents who could afford to sebd him to a school that only the very wealthy could afford. Yet we're conditioned to feel sympathy for him purely because of his condition.
Do some research on the horrors that abused children go through. And then think about how admirable that 'actor' is. There is some horrific footage out there- sorry to be so serious and depressive, but this means such a lot to me. surely you understood my point about his"acting ability" ? Why the need to compare Down's with child abuse ?

The twins are just being downright rude as they want Mary back.
As for Dev hauling Mary over the hot coals for getting another job, she should have thrown Erica's unappreciated curry at him. Did she suddenly forget all these chores when applying for the florist job?It was quite bizarre. |

I apologise for posting a comment on Alex's lack of acting ability ... because it has been converted into a Downs discussion ... when the intention was only a view on his lack of ability compared with other Downs actors.
The thread will, though, return to its light-hearted ways ... as it always does after it gets diverted. ![]() ![]() ![]() Quote:
Yeah I didn't quite understand this. Wasn't the whole point of Mary taking on a second job to fill all the free time she has when the kids are at school?! But then Dev was saying she has all these chores to do like their washing and stuff and Mary just agreed

Makes you wonder doesn't it? I reckon a lot of it nowdays is a case of who they know rather than ability.
Acting used to be a serious profession, especially on Corrie. You didn't just learn lines, you were given time to get 'into' character and work on your craft. Re Alex, the character's 'likability' doesn't bother me (I can name plenty of characters who I despise but they have the right dynamics to fit in), I don't see why on earth Cathy would be happy for her nephew to live with her in a cramped flat? It should be Nessa's responsibility to look after his welfare; if not why can't Cathy just live with him in her place??? Whenever I see Alex on screen, enthusiastic and bright-eyed the actor may be, I keep questioning what was the point of introducing him. The writers should have done a better job with his 'background story'. They've totally got it wrong with Cathy..........a shame because Melanie Hill has all the assets to be a Corrie great. But Alex to me screams 'token'................more about making a statement, then actually working on a story and letting the statement come through. Emily's deaf cousin (forget the name) was a wonderful example of Corrie getting it right. She wasn't a regular, but she wasn't a boring 'box-ticking' stereotype. Whatever happened to Cathy's allotment by the way? Does Roy still source his fruits and veg from there?

That was the case with certain pop 'stars'..........agents sniffing about, asking for 'acting work' and Corrie obliged.

Erica and Dev IMO not a match made in heaven. I would have preferred Mary and Dev.

Roy asked Sally to look after the café whilst he took Alex to the hospital.
Next scene - Sally sitting in UnderWorld at her machine! When Cathy went to see Nessa's husband, she obviously went to get a coffee somewhere, came back to the car, opened up the passenger side and got in. Why did she sit on the passenger side???? |

Perhaps Cathy was being sensible by sitting in the passenger's seat, at least she couldn't be charged with drink driving by one of Corrie's finest, complete with squad car and blue lights! |

Roy only asked her to look after the place so he could fetch Anna, 5 minutes across the street?

On the topic of Alex, there are better actors with Downs out there, the young lady from American Horror Story for example was fab! (In the wrong country but that's irrelevant ). However, Alex hopefully will fizzle out soon and we won't have to endure much of the 'acting' from either him or Cathy. |

She wasn't planning on driving anywhere and probably had more room to eat her sandwich without having the steering wheel on her lap whilst eating her lunch, totally plausible.

You can be charged sitting in any seat in the car if drinking alcohol and over the limit.
It's down to if you have the keys in your possession. |

Maybe we could start up the most SOR storyline for his departure, bearing in mind he can't record any new scenes ! How about ... he's decided to go to Peru to look for Emily
